I loved Boldin but the guy has next to no role in our offense. I don't even know if it would be respectful to his legacy to bring him in to be our 3rd or 4th WR at best.

Put him on the outside, let him be the big bodied possession receiver.

I would be all for it.

People forget Boldin is the one that didn't want to be here. He was jealous of Fitz and the money he got, he always thought it should of been him.

At some point, SK has to try to upgrade STs---which makes it tough to sign veterans who aren't STs players.

i listened to the spot with B Train yesterday

Q was diplomatic, but the tone of his voice sure sounded like he had little interest in Arizona

I would take him back in a new york minute. Watch him last year when thrown to he is still as tough as you can get and always a Cardinal.

Couldn't disagree more. Dude had 8 TDs last year while our #2 and #3 missed significant time.

Not only that - unlike waste of space Floyd, he actually hangs onto what's thrown at him. I'd bring him back in a heartbeat. The guy has a TON of heart and would be a great example out there for the young guys. One more year in Arizona, then retire. Do it!

Even in his prime, Boldin was most effective in the slot. He's not an X or Z receiver at this point in his career.

Agreed.

But, he CAN play on the outside, and has during his career. He has been effective on the outside, but I 100% agree he is MOST effective out of the slot.

But, the Cardinals need some sort of presence on the outside.

And we think the guy we draft to play on the outside is going to play special teams ? Not sure what you are getting at in concerns to what BASK is doing to get a player to play on the outside at the receiver position.

Is the concern special teams or having a wide receiver with some size on the outside ?

To be fair, it sounds like the Cardinals are going to the roll the dice, and in my opinion fail miserably, and expect John Brown, Jaron Brown and JJ Nelson to be the outside receivers in this offense.

Unless Jermaine Gresham because more of a possession type pass catcher, on 3rd downs, this team will struggle..............actually as I write this, Jaron Brown did have a knack for making the big catch to move the chains, but can he do it consistently ?

The problem is, Rugby, unless we sign a vet to be a top receiver (which Boldin wouldn't be), they must play special teams. I think that was Mitch's point.

I understand the non interest.. but we need some big body physical receiver. Brown and Nelson are not that and frankly I'm not even sure their bodies are right the the abuse of the position. Outside of fitz who fits that role? Jaron? Idk, i think boldin would fit that role. He's been consistant his whole career

Agreed.

My response is if we are looking for a wide receiver who is good enough to be a #2 WR in the NFL, that usually does not translate to a player that also plays special teams.

Thus what Mitch wants, and what I think the Cardinals need are two different things.

If special teams ability is more important than playing the receiver position on the outside, then I say we already have that player in Jaron Brown, and the Cardinals and us fans can cross out the need in the draft and free agency for a special teams player that is also a receiver because we already have a player for that exact role.

Boldin can't be our #2, though. Our #1, Fitz, is now what Boldin used to be; you can't have two possession receivers at the top. We need someone faster in the #2 role.

This is the point I was trying to make. We already have a Boldin. While we may not necessarily draft Mike Williams or Corey Davis and insert them into special teams roles, a 2nd or 3rd round pick can come in and play on the outside and have a role on special teams as well.

OK. Then the Cardinals are set. You are not getting much faster than John Brown and JJ Nelson.

If the Cardinals want a #2 that plays special teams, they have Jaron Brown.

If the Cardinals want #2 with speed then they have John Brown, and JJ Nelson.

Me? If I am running the team, I want a larger, more physical receiver, with great hands, but I do not run the team, so its what the Cardinals decide.
