Just released by the Steelers and it seems we have just aquired the entire steelers coaching staff...hmmmm no brainer, simply a mean sob joey porter could potentially transform our beloved red birds....Comments/Questions/Concerns?

If Porter is really worth it, I would imagine Whis and Grimm would have a good idea. Hopefully they are pushing him to come here.

Sports Illustrated named Porter the "Most Feared Man In the NFL" for 2006. I am tired of people thinking of us as push overs. Time to change our image, go get this guy!

The first time Porter would light somebody up and get in his face there'd be 15 posts here about what a thug Porter is and how the team lacked discipline.

I doubt it very seriously. It's one thing for friggin Orlando Huff or Antrelle to be jawing, but Porter is the kind of player who backs up the yapping. I think that's all we ask.

I personally hate how Rolle always jumps bad like he did something when his man drops the ball when Rolle is 15 yards away from him....

He's not jumping bad. He's just thrilled over how lucky he was that he didn't get another spot on another team's season highlight DVD.

If we could get Porter at a decent price I would be on that. "But you have to be careful. Cuz you dont want to give somebody to big a piece of pie" quote by Denny Green

I think he would fit like a glove in Pendy's defense. I'm all for it! Porter, Hayes, & Dansby?! Sounds like a killer trio to me!!

If he does not show up here it will be a result of two reason. First KW know him and if he feels the tank is empty he won't put the front office in an embarrassing position or waste anyones time. The second reason is his demands will not be a value investment. Way back in the day the last thing a team would want to do is take any pitcher who could not pitch for the Yankees. If they gave up on a pitcher, stay away "cause it was game over for the guy.

I think that any way you cut it, he'd be an upgrade over Orlando Huff, along with a name that would give the impression that the Cardinals were trying to make some kind of a splash in free agency. As Gambo and Ash have been saying all afternoon, he also might bring a vocal presence to our defense.

Has he lost a step? Sure. But at the same time, I think he'd definitely solidify that side opposite Dansby.

what's this based on? He's never in his career played in a 4-3 base defensive system. Even more, he's just been released from a team that is in the process of transitioning into a 4-3 Cover-2 scheme.

I agree. I think Porter is the ONLY guy we could sign who would make much of an impact as a starter. I'll take one Porter over Travis Fisher, Al Johnson and Mike Gandy combined. I'd pay him more money than I'd pay those three too.

Of course, I wouldn't pay Fisher and Gandy a warm six pack of diet cola.

From Don Banks at Si.com...

"According to a source close to Porter, at least seven teams have made contact to inquire about the three-time Pro Bowl selection, and they read like a who's who of the NFL's 3-4 defensive formation stalwarts: New England, the Jets, Baltimore, San Francisco, Dallas, Cleveland and Miami"

No AZ in there.

I really can't say I'm surprised by that.

Not a surprise at all. Also was watching something the other day that said Whiz thought Porter had 'hit the wall'.
