Once we jetison King, we are in the same boat as they are.....Holcombe= McCown and McCown =Navarre.......and we'll be competing for the same "veteran" to get us over the hump.

I wonder if this assures the Browns of taking a QB at #3.......cuz if they do then Derrick Johnson falls to us.

Browns are making a big push to resign Holcombe who will become a free agent. They will then make him the starter with Luke McCown the backup.

Damn, now they are taking QB for sure.

I'm not sure we want Garcia, he's been trouble calling people out wherever he's been. Not a team player.

Trouble because he had a .237 DUI I'll agree with but he was the one being called out in SF by TO, not the other way around.

I'm not saying we should sign the guy but consider what has happened to him since he left SF. Coming off an injury plagued last year(Back injury lifting weights) he signs with Cleveland who is putting in a new offense. He plays so sparingly in the preseason that he complains that he needs "more reps if I'm going to be sharp". Gets off to a slow start, injuries, not very good play on his part either.

Garcia is no superstar but he was essentially set up to fail in Cleveland becausd Davis didn't give him enough work to get comfortable with the new offense and his teammates.

Though I obviously have no idea how it would pan out I would like to see them sign him asap. I'd rather see a good guy like Josh succeed but you can't hinge anything on that when it concerns your business so I say bring him in, especially if the cap number is right...

I think he'll sign with Detroit. He knows Mooch's system, but I don't know if they had a falling out>

I actually think you're right, they want a competitor for Harrington and that's why they're dumping McMahon.

I just don't think Jeff is the same since the back injury, seems to be skittish in the pocket and he didn't run nearly as much in Cleveland as he did in SF.

His best days are behind him.

He had a DUI, but beyond that the guy seems like a complete class act. I'm not even going to demonize him for a DUI--everybody makes mistakes. It doesn't seem like he's a habitual offender.

He did criticize Butch Davis and Robiskie this year, but he was right, brand new offense and they were asking him to do things he doesn't do well, and then they gave him no reps in the preseason.

And of course now they're all gone, Davis, Robiskie, AND Garcia.

Browns release QB Garcia after one season

NFL.com wire reports

CLEVELAND (Feb. 14, 2005) -- Quarterback Jeff Garcia was released by the Cleveland Browns, who cut ties with the three-time Pro Bowler after one bad season and with three years left on his contract.

Garcia signed a four-year, $25 million free agent contract with the Browns last March after spending five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. But almost from the time Garcia arrived in Cleveland, there were problems.

During the exhibition season, the 34-year-old complained he wasn't getting enough playing time and that he was having trouble adjusting to new teammates and a new offense. Garcia made things worse by openly criticizing former Browns coach Butch Davis and offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie, complaining that they weren't using him properly.

After rallying the Browns (4-12) to beat Baltimore in Week 1, Garcia threw three interceptions the next week in a loss at Dallas and recorded a 0.0 quarterback rating -- only the fifth NFL quarterback since 1970 to do so.

Garcia's season also was hampered by injuries. He strained his shoulder on a sack against the New York Jets on Nov. 21 and tore a knee ligament on Dec. 12 in Buffalo.

I only saw Garcia play once this season, and IIRC it was bonus TV coverage in the last few minutes of a tight game (I dont remember the Browns opponent). The Garcia I saw was running a 2 minute drill nicely, but getting absolutely hammered by the defense in the process. He could barely walk at the end of the game (the browns lost). He played with fire, and I was impressed by his refusal to give up even though it seemed his teammates had already threw in the towel. That said, I dont know how he would fit into the Cards plans if he would only accept being the starter.

As for the DUI, maybe he would come out to the parking lot and party with the fans.

I wouldn't be upset if Garcia was brought in. It's a big upgrade, IMO.

Alright. My thinking cap has been adjusted, and readjusted. And still... I think Garcia would be a very good signing. Even if it meant letting McCown walk.

Garcia, with Navarre backing him up, with Frye at number three... this works for me.

By the end of the season Frye would be the starter, IMO.

Oh Canada!
i watched this guy play in the cfl for 5-6 years and I can offer a few things that I like about him. He is tough! I mean like Favre like tough he will take a huge hit to make a 1st down. And he is very smart when he's in a system that h's comfortable in. He is a class act on and off the field. I saw him turn good wideouts into great wideouts, B/c they know that if they can get a step he'll get the the ball. He would be a very big upgrade! As long as we upgrade our O-line as well. B/c joe montana could get it done laying on his back like our Qbs were most of last year!

I watched the Browns vs Ravens games and I was impressed with Garcia. Espically with his ability to make plays when his protection broke down (and that happened alot). He lead one heck of a 2 minute drill on Sunday Night Football which unfortunatley ended in an fantastic interception return by Ed Reed.

I would not be against him being brought in. But I wonder how much he has in the tank? I don't want a situation like with theRedskins/Brunell where the guy can't even perform.
