Was just watching NFL32 and they did a segment on how crappy our offense is as well as poured some cold water over Arians.
First they had McShay saying in his new mock draft we're taking Geno Smith, and doesn't like the pick.
Second they showed how horrible we were by the QBR rating since Warner left which showed a league average of 52.4, the three just ahead of us had 35.4, 36, and 37.1, and we were 26.8.
Third they had a panel discussion about us and our situation and basically were saying if we draft Geno we have no one to protect him. We play against the best front sevens and d-lines in the league, and that Arians's QB's always get hit anyways. They even said murderer's row of d-lines.
They pointed out how his QB's always got brutalized and said he doesn't prioritize protecting the QB. They referenced how Big ***** always got hit, and Andrew Luck took 116 hits (and unlike Kolb, survived).
How we don't run the ball and were saying if we don't get our line better that we risk whatever QB we might take up high being Couch'ed. They were saying the only real top quality positions up high in the draft are on the lines and Schlereth mentioned he believed in building inside out and maybe having it take awhile as better than reaching for a QB and not having a line and running game to protect that QB. Basically said our line and no running game and a rookie QB were a bad combination.
Of course this is all going off past situations where Arians' wasn't the true head coach, either interim or OC, but it does butt heads with what Arians' was saying regarding line not as bad as advertised. ESPN notoriously looks for issues and blows them out of proportion because they sometimes have bad info and lack any journalistic skills, but the case they made was fairly logical.
Someone's wrong. I don't know who, but we'll surely see.
It's just many of us were hoping that Arians would make adjustments and protect the QB better, and ESPN correctly or incorrectly stated otherwise. Again we'll see.
