Yeah, just threw that in there.

Agreed it is way to early to label Floyd.

Yet, I hated the pick, and was very underwhelmed with what he brought to the table last season......accept his blocking. Damn good blocker, better then Rob Housler.

500+ yards receiving last season starting as a #4 receiver with shotty QB play throughout the season.

He did miss on some routes, but more often than not, a QB missed on a throw that was 1,000 feet over his head.

IIRC, those players were available in the offseason.

Jeff Backus would have been way batter then Levi Brown, IMO.

That's fair, and all of those guys were available. Worth noting that, like Brown, all of those guys stayed with their current teams though. Just going off of memory, but Backus and Starks are older but I think they both played ok last year, Dunlap was advocated by a few and beat out Bell but I recall that whole Eagles line being a mess, and Gaither was either hurt or horrible (or both) after a good 2011.

When I asked the question, I was thinking about the large majority of people who were advocating Demetrius/Demetress/Demetsomething Bell, who was considered the #1 OT free agent, and was a disaster of a free agent signing. The options we could have taken at #13, Reilly Reiff and Jonathan Martin, both slid a pretty good way after our pick in the draft after we took Floyd, but I recall both having their moments last year for rookies.

I'm certainly not a Levi Brown fan/apologist, but my point is that I think people overestimate how easily it would be to replace/upgrade him. I'd certainly have no issue with Joeckel is he's there at #7, but not sold on Fisher and I think the free agent tackles this year all have some concerns and high price tags.

Bruce Arians: Cards offensive line not as bad as advertised...link

“It’s not as near the dire straits everyone wants to make it out to be,” Arians said, via the team’s official website.

Arians believes the return of Levi Brown from the triceps injury that sidelined him for all of the 2012 will help the Cardinals line return to form.

ugh... return to form? what form is that? one of the worst in the league? thanks, but we've already accomplished that with or without Levi.

Was just watching NFL32 and they did a segment on how crappy our offense is as well as poured some cold water over Arians.

First they had McShay saying in his new mock draft we're taking Geno Smith, and doesn't like the pick.

Second they showed how horrible we were by the QBR rating since Warner left which showed a league average of 52.4, the three just ahead of us had 35.4, 36, and 37.1, and we were 26.8.

Third they had a panel discussion about us and our situation and basically were saying if we draft Geno we have no one to protect him. We play against the best front sevens and d-lines in the league, and that Arians's QB's always get hit anyways. They even said murderer's row of d-lines.

They pointed out how his QB's always got brutalized and said he doesn't prioritize protecting the QB. They referenced how Big ***** always got hit, and Andrew Luck took 116 hits (and unlike Kolb, survived).

How we don't run the ball and were saying if we don't get our line better that we risk whatever QB we might take up high being Couch'ed. They were saying the only real top quality positions up high in the draft are on the lines and Schlereth mentioned he believed in building inside out and maybe having it take awhile as better than reaching for a QB and not having a line and running game to protect that QB. Basically said our line and no running game and a rookie QB were a bad combination.

Of course this is all going off past situations where Arians' wasn't the true head coach, either interim or OC, but it does butt heads with what Arians' was saying regarding line not as bad as advertised. ESPN notoriously looks for issues and blows them out of proportion because they sometimes have bad info and lack any journalistic skills, but the case they made was fairly logical.

Someone's wrong. I don't know who, but we'll surely see.

It's just many of us were hoping that Arians would make adjustments and protect the QB better, and ESPN correctly or incorrectly stated otherwise. Again we'll see.

I agree with you. But to be fair, bad QB play got worse with bad oline play. Hard to judge Floyd or anyone really.

I don't think any of those guys are better options than Levi. Dunlap ended up playing OG, Gaither was so bad, because his back wouldn't let him move, that he was replaced by a rookie UDFA, and Backus is 100. If Starks was healthy he and Levi would be about a wash.

In Arians defense, Ben was hit just as much, if not more, this past year. That's just a product of the way he plays. As for Luck, he was a rookie and had a very young OL in front of him, which tends to lead to the QB getting knocked around.

They also forgot to mention that even with all thos hits, those teams were very successful.

Free agency and the draft will tell us all what we need to know about the feelings of this staff.

I am not optimistic, but I am willing to give Keim and Arians until the end of April before I pass judgement.

It is very close to what I've been crucified on this board for years for saying. Not just about Levi - and I think he is one of the better tackles in the NFL - but the system kills tackles and QB's. Doesn't take a rocket scientist- being last in rushing and passing more than any team in history over Levi's career. 26 sacks to over 600 passes in 08 and 09! is 575 + defended passes each year with THT at RB?

When I say defended I mean defended by an oline! I mean going backwards to pass PROTECT 66%+ of the time is insane! and there were tons of games with 10 runs or less LIKE THE STUPID SB and the SAINTS PLAYOFF LOSS!

Going forward to run block was an after thought - i'm worried BA will pass like his hair is on fire too- but he is not as stupid as the old staff- Haley- Whiz and Miller drank too much of their own kool aid! Joe Thomas would not have held up to the onslaught of NFL defenses blitzing week in and week out- I thought is was impossible until LEVI - Deuce, Wells, Sendlein and gandy, Bridges did it.

I'm not even sure our young oline that has been and gone are that bad? How can you tell when the game plan and play caller try to kill your career every week. and fans yell at me for repeating this same "information" for years. Levi has every thing to do with our playoff success. He deserves the ring of honor for surviving 5 years of that crap.

Which was the opposite of what Whiz promised to bring from Pittsburg. At least BA is straight up about it. But you need to run to earn pass proficiency- it is just the damned truth! NFL defenses did not tolerate that disrespect -they destroyed us.

Will they continue - If we game plan and call plays like we have- they'll feast on Cardinals for another century or so.

This may be a smokescreen, but it just may be that Grimm's Coaching was THAT bad... That being said, I still believe we need to draft 2 olinemen in the first 3 rounds.

Everything you say to defend Levi is hogwash!!!

The Cards Oline has gotten worse each year since Gandy retired after the 2009 season & that's with your boy playing the HTLT (human turnstile left tackle) position. The proofs in the pudding Thesmel...Levi Brown sucks azz.

I give it until week 3 when the board rips his sorry play once more!!!

That isn't true, unfortunately. One of Haley's foci was to reduce the number of hits Big Ben took, and he was doing a very good job of that. It didn't stop him from getting hurt on one of those hits, but Haley received a lot of praise for reducing the hits on Ben. All that praise went out the window when their season fell apart, and the fans turned on him, of course.

So you plan on passing judgement on a new regime after relatively 6 weeks into a new year?

Yes, I will pass my intial judgement of the new staff after seeing how they handle FA and the draft. I will judge them on the direction they decide to go with. the same way I was critical of the previous staff's drafting of MIchael Floyd, and signing of FAs Daryn Colledge, Adam Snyder, and Stewart Bradley.

I am ok saying I was wrong if the staff makes move that I think are stupid and then they prove to be the right moves. However, I have not had to say this with mnay of the moves that have been made in the past.

Perhaps "assessment' is the more appropriate term. Judgement has a certain finality to it, and I'm hard=pressed to understand how anyone can reach "judgement" in sport before the games are actually played.

As the full proper saying goes: "The proof of the pudding is in the eating."

I admit that I am a hard person to understand.

In all honesty, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what players can do in this league. I feel like I understand the potential impact of players on our roster, available in FA and available in the draft. I feel like once I see the ingredients, I can determine pretty accurately how the food will taste. Very rarely do I feel that I am surprised by teams performances at the end of the year.

I think a lot of us fans are a little apprehensive. Its a lot of change but my wife is probably right when she says we've seen so much suckage we wouldn't know good or great even if it was staring right at us.

We're like certain types of hostages who, after an extensive period of time, begin to love and admire their captors. We get led outside to freedom and we're like "Where the hell is my comfy cell?"
