Bruce Arians: Haason Reddick was better than any QB on draft board

I imagine if the team were to play badly enough to get a high draft pick next season, that would probably be it for Palmer, Fitzpatrick, and Arians. Keim is young enough to start over with a rookie QB, but Bruce will be 65 with health issues. He'd either retire voluntarily or be replaced, I would think. That would also mean that Gabbert would move on. Blaine isn't at the point where he wants to caddy for a top draft pick, and a new staff would probably want their own guys.

It's going to be a strange season in a lot of ways. Everyone standing around waiting for the music to stop. I think they have to win a dozen games and a playoff game or two in order for the coaching staff and any of the top veterans to return.
Man... I miss Stanley Park in the spring and heading over to Budchart Gardens on a nice day.

Welcome to the board.

P.s. I respectfully disagree with most of your points of view.

If the team plays badly enough to warrant a top pick, I do agree with you... Palmer, Fitzgerald (not patrick), and Arians could well be gone. But I think that either way, Fitz and Palmer retire, barring their play being outside of both their expectations and ours. Arians, I suspect, has a couple more years in him chasing the dream of a Super Bowl as a head coach, since he just hasn't had the chance, and this roster is still going to be pretty talented without Carson and Larry.

I'm all for it if Blaine reaches his potential or shows some flashes or something, but let's not pretend that there's any possible way the Cardinals fanbase isn't brandishing torches and frankenstein rakes at management if they have Gabbert slotted anywhere near our starting QB next season.

What would it have meant for Gabbert to have delivered on his potential in Jacksonville? San Francisco?

There's a reason he is on Team #3 at age 27. He's simply not that talented.

While we can agree that this 2017 QB class was mediocre at best and likely wouldn't have produced the QBoF we need, we can also agree that Gabbert is a known commodity going into his 7th season in the NFL--a first-round bust hoping to stick around the NFL and add to his pension as a career backup.
Disagree. Gabbert is extremely talented. He has some flaws though. And with qb small flaws make big differences. The big question is whether he is teachable or not.

The number of years SK and BA have in front of them can't be ignored but needn't be overemphasized either.

Why complicate matters? Each year, you field the best team possible and try to win as many games as you can.

As soon as a coach, manager, CEO or any other leader gets tied up in knots worrying about a whole bunch of things that can't be controlled - game-over.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Recent history....Kurt Warner-washed up! Carson Palmer-acquired for a 7th round pick. BOTH got us all the way to an NFC championship game. Gabbert? We hear the phrase bandied about a lot in the NFL..."a change of scenery might do him good." I would not be surprised if Gabbert succeeds in Arizona. If anyone can get the most out of him, it's B.A. He's called the "QB whisperer" for a reason. ...And there's also some guy named Tom Moore who knows a thing or two about QB's, too.

Have a GREAT Sunday, everyone!

Difference is that both Palmer and Warner were very good NFL QBs at some point in their careers prior to coming to the Cards. Gabbert has never shown that he can be even an above average NFL QB. It is not a valid comparison.

I like the idea of kicking the tires on Gabbert. He needs a chance with a legitimate team. They can get his confidence back, THEN he can learn when to let loose and when to take what's given. But you need the right team and coaching staff, and he's got that now.

To play devils advocate, Warner wasn't even good enough to get on an NFL roster until he was Gabbert's current age.

Gabbert has had his chances to play for NFL teams though and didn't look very good doing it. Warner just never had his first opportunity until then, but I would guess he would have done well at a younger age had he had the opportunity.

Nothing more than a guess. Didn't hurt Warner either that he cut his teeth with arguably the most talented offense in the history of the NFL. Gabbert was thrown in there with some of the worst teams in recent memory and almost zero offensive talent around him.

Warner was in a couple NFL camps at least before he became a starter (at 28). He may not have had long looks, but he was definitely trying and teams were giving him opportunities long before he was successful. Hell, Tony Romo was Gabbert's age before he got his first start, I think.

Wth does a garage have to do with anything?

Edit: My bad. You posted gargage. I read it as garage. What's a gargage & why are you yelling it?

Hey Bleedred. I've been a cardinal fan for 57 yrs. Were you even a sperm 57 years ago.

No, old man I wasn't. Have to say your comment was troll like. Comparing players at two different positions, and then saying the front office doesn't know how to aquire a good qb when we have one.

Well, they did have an idea on how to acquire Palmer...and, considering the price they paid, no one else was seeing what they saw. Maybe they see more in Gabbert than everyone else is seeing, too.

Love your enthusiasm, Camshaft, but I wasn't a Mahomes fan. He might be worth the pick but odds are he won't contribute for a couple of years, if ever. I think Reddick was a solid, safe pick that pays off this season.

Cardncubfan, thank you for pointing out my misspelling. I yelled because QB hell is coming. It'll hit like bronco nagurski hitting the end zone wall.

Agreed with you on QB hell. I keep saying we'd better win it all this year so I can tolerate the next 5 years or so of 5-11 and 6-10.

Once training camp starts I promise I'll stop being chicken little, but for now the sky is falling.

There's a reason he is on Team #3 at age 27. He's simply not that talented.

Steve Young was on team #3 at age 26 (if you count the LA Express in the USFL before Tampa Bay) and he has a bust in Canton. Moving from the awful Tampa Bay offense to Bill Walsh's 49er offense brought out his true potential.

Not suggesting Gabbert is the next Steve Young - merely stating that being in this spot, having not performed particularly well but never having played for a competent offensive team, means we don't know what his ceiling truly is.

Young is the go-to example in every journeyman scenario, but he is the exception, not the rule. He was "fixed" by arguably the best offensive mind ever, Bill Walsh. As much as I love Bruce, he's not at Walsh's level, and can't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t.

I'll eat the fattest piece of crow if Gabbert becomes the QBoF, but every variable indicates that it's simply not the case.

Let's give it some time guys. We have Palmer for at least one more year, QB's currently on the roster, free agency, trades, the draft. I mean we got Carson for a 6th if I remember correctly. Going to be a great season. In Keim we trust!
