I'd love to have Thibs coach the Suns but I think it's highly unlikely. He will probably end up in New Orleans.

I wonder if this will effect Jimmy Butler's free agency at all.

The Bulls went 255-139 in 5 years under Thibs and made the playoffs each season. I think Chicago will regret letting him go, maybe not this upcoming season but soon. He definitely overachieved there considering all the injuries to key players like Rose and Noah.

How so? He is a RFA and the Bulls have already said they are offering max and will match ANY offer.

OK, now that the shock has worn off, I kind of hope we make a run at John Calipari. He knows how to cheat to win, so why not. Plus, Rose loves him. OK, maybe I am still in shock.

But in all seriousness, who ever gets Thibs is going to make a big jump. He does need to stop being so stubborn about being a team player and hire someone to help more with the offensive game plan. Once Pau went down against Cleveland, he had nothing new to come up with and that has been a knock on him since he came to Chicago. If you guys decided to go after him, I think Len with become a focal point. I would be interested to see how that works out.

Injuries really affected most of his teams it seems. I read fan commentary complaining of Thibs running guys into the ground during the regular season (too many minutes leading to injuries), stubbornness similar to DA and such. Any truth to that Banky?

I agree to an extent with that. Bulter, Deng and Noah being the prime examples. He refused to play Bulter his rookie year and drove Deng into the ground. Then Deng broke down and Bulter stepped in because he had to and then he played Bulter the most MPG both this year and last year and ended up missing a handful of games each year. I am not sure how long he can keep it up and with Tony Snell on the bench, not sure why he did it. Snell only really played when Butler was down and played well in that time.

As for Noah, it has shortened his career IMHO. He will never be the same player and maybe has 3-4 more productive years left. This is where the team and Thibs butted heads the most and I think was the true deciding factor. You win a championship, it's ok, but not to get one while breaking the player in the process was too much.

He also really hates playing rookies in general. Doug McDermott is a great example of that. He kid never got a chance to get anything going, even when Dunleavy was out. Now Dunleavy is a FA and McDermott is supposed to replace him, but never played.

Yeah this is what I've been reading in other places as well. He's an outstanding coach and defensive mind, but it sounds an awful lot like the complaints many here had with D'Antoni, myself included.

I know the Bulls have said they plan to match any offer and they will offer the max but he could pull a Joe Johnson and ask the team not to match or simply take the 1 year tender and be an unrestricted FA next year like Greg Monroe did. Everyone knows that next season the cap will spike up and almost every team in the league will have max room available so he could be better off holding out to see how the team does replacing Thibs allowing him to choose his destination next season if things don't work out well.

Thibs is overrated, his Bulls teams did about what was expected from them, maybe even underarchieved at times.

We won't fire Hornacek anyway so why bring it up.

Thibodeau might be an upgrade over Hornacek but I don't think the Suns are in a position to fire Hornacek for no reason except that Thibodeau is available.

Man, if New Orleans hires him, it would be a perfect fit for both parties there.

As for OP, let's keep the dream alive but little to no chance he comes here.

You are so wrong. Thibs won 50 games with Mike James, C.J. Watson, Ronnie Brewer and John Lucas all playing major minutes. He is a great regular season coach who can't win in the playoffs. He has the 9th highest winning percentage in league history and that is including Steve Kerr. If you only count coached who coached 5 years or more, then he is 6th highest ever while missing key players all the time with over 100 games each from Rose and Noah.

That would be a great hire if learns how to pace his players and brings in a decent offensive assistant.

Again, why? Thibs ran him into the ground. I love Thibs, but Butler will benefit ths most from this and he knows this. He hinted many times about going out there so much because it his is job, but he was starting to feel it.

if the Cavs don't win the title, I wonder if they blowout cross-eyes for hard-ass.

I'm not saying it opens him up to become a Sun or sign with any other team in particular but it may effect his plans. I think it raises the chances he leaves rather than stays, even if that only ups it to 5% chance he goes elsewhere. I suspect it's higher than a 5% chance though. I'd be surprised if Chicago's roster looks close to the same next year. Dunleavy and Brooks are free agents, in addition to Butler, also Hinrich has a player option for 2.8 million. I can see their roster getting shaken up a bit in regard to their rotation players. Noah, Rose & Gibson were outspoken supporters of Thibodeau, maybe one of them get moved? I think a coaching change is only the start of changes in Chicago this offseason, especially if they sign a rookie coach like Hoiberg to take over. I know there are 2 rookie head coaches in the finals this year but I doubt Hoiberg has that sort of success in his first year.

Go out and get him. Dude won basically 6.5 games out of every 10. You have to consistently get to the playoffs to even get a chance. We have only reached the 50 win level what twice in the past 8?

His lack of playoff success is a concern but at least he can get his teams there.

Much like most of slin's posts.

Agreed on his excellence. I think he will learn from his Bulls tenture and hire a good offensive assistant coach. Steve Kerr will tell you first hand how much having Alvin Gentry for their offense helped him coach.
