Lets assume the Cardinals end up drafting around were they currently stand --8th.

Should the Cardinals pay the price to move up to the #1 spot overall to get Reggie Bush?

Figure the price will be this year's first and second and a mid round pick, plus next year's first and second.

Its a stiff price, but here is my rationale:

1. Bush instantly upgrades the running game and instantly adds a unique big play threat the backfield.

2. The positions that the Cards need to upgrade -- interior o line and run stopping d linemen are relatively inexpensive on the free agency market.

3. The picks traded away do free up cap space and bonus money to sign free agents.

4. The Cardinals need a buzz in the offseason. Adding Reggie Bush puts another young potential superstar on this team that the local fan is familiar with.

Just a thought.

I'm going to say no...only because we are far more than just 1 player away from being a good team. That is just too much of a price to pay for one guy. Now, if Ditka were our coach, then it would be a done deal! :biglaugh:

First,

Bush will not take a 1st and 2nd this year, AND a 1st and 2nd next year. He is not that special. Michael Vick was only a 1st and 2nd one year, then a late pick I believe.

The most we should have to spend is either 1st, 2nd, 4th this year, or 1st, 6th this year, 1st next year. If we have to spend on those scenerios, I say yes, we do it. Hell you can throw Leinart in that mix as well.

If there's any justice in this world, Bush will be drafted by San Francisco, who will trade Kevan Barlow away in the offseason. This will leave them with Bush and Gore in the backfield...

No way you give up that much for a RB.He may not even be as a pro as DeAngelo Williams who we could just as easily get at 8.I know everybody is on Bush's jock more now that he had 500+ yards offense but the price you talking about will get you a franchise QB and they have a ton more value than RB's.

Dont you know it.................................

I know that hype is cheap at this time in the college football season -- but.....

Lets assume that the scouting dept/Denny etc really beleive that Reggie Bush is special -- the best player to come out in some time ... do you pay the price to go get him?

Would you have paid that price to get Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith? In hindsight its easy to say yes -- but if you have a shot at a player with that potential, I think you ought to go get him.

I will also admit that I would also be okay with sitting at #8 (or wherever) and taking LenDale White -- I like the idea of adding a power back to the mix......

The only trouble with Bush is he doesn't have an exit stratagy. I say No because we need other positions filled and JJ just might be the back and he is here already. Green will not IMO give up picks for one guy , when he can get 7 picks and end up with 3-4 starters.

I'm with Cbus, Reggie is a phenom but you don't give up all those picks when you can likely get DeAngelo Williams or Lendale White with our pick anyways if we want a RB.

I'm hoping it will be a moot point, that the last 6 games will afford JJ the opportunity to cement the RB of the future job so we don't even consider one in the first round. If by some miracle Bush was still there when we pick, take him, but don't trade multiple #1's, and I don't think Green has ever done that.

2. Run Stopping D Linemen are not inexpensive, and thats if any even hit the open market in the first place. Pat Williams was cheap becuase he is old and isnt that good anymore. If you want one you are most likely going to have to draft one.

3. The picks traded away still dont equal the amount of money needed to sign a #1 pick. In fact we would be paying more. Thats how big of a difference in pay their is for top 5 picks and the rest of the first round.

IMHO Bush is a slam dunk. The only thing that will keep him from being a Hall Of Famer will be injury.

As long as we don't have to play Bush twice a year then I care not where he goes. If Houston has 1st pick and they want to trade it or just take Lienhart, and SF is picking next, I pull the move.

We are not out of the running to get the first pick. 3-13 might do it. Based on what ESPN was saying about Bush if we had the first pick Bidwill would have the crowning achievement over all his numerous other bad draft picks with the mother of all bad decisions if he did not pick Bush. ESPN was comparing Bush to Gale Sayers. ALL their analysts said Bush will be great. I have not seen Bush play and only have seen highlights.

He's pretty remarkable, and he's much better this year than last year. He's averaging 8.6 YPC this year which is astounding, his 6.4 was good for 2nd in the pac 10 last year(behind JJ) and he's obliterating that this year and already has 20 more carries than last year. Last year Marshawn Lynch averaged 8.8 YPC but he had only 71 carries, Bush has 163 this year.

Drafting Bush would basically make drafting JJ, who will be a great starter, worthless.

It would be like drafting Gale Sayers when your starting RB is Deuce McCallister. I mean we have a lot more positions to upgreade before we have the need to upgrade a set position.

Ever who has the right to draft this guy is not going to trade it. He looks like a player that comes along once in a decade. What if we drafted in a position to draft him would many of you be ready to trade your draft pick.

Ordinarily I'd agree but I think Bush is simply too talented to pass on if you get the chance. He can do a lot of things JJ can't, return punts and kickoffs, much better receiver. JJ would be a backup to Bush, but he'd still have value he'd get carries and if Bush got hurt, he'd be the starter. Obviously you don't draft Bush with the intent of trading JJ, we've seen in recent years there's not a huge market for trading RB's.

If we're lucky and Bush is on the board I think we have to take him.

Now with DeAngelo Williams then you have a decision to make, I think he'll be better than JJ too but not so clearly that you would pass on help at a position of need to take him.

From what most of the experts are writing he is beyond special. From what I have seen of him he is the best I have seen since Barry Sanders. He will go number one and likely to Houston and they will not trade him.

Knowing what we know now I would have traded our entire drafts pick for Manning. Some people are so special you just cannot put a price on them. You take them and build around them.
