As much as I would love to see him in AZ the Cardinals are in need of impact players and not projects. Why would they draft someone who will get all that money to sit the bench for at least one season if not more when they could take someone who could boost the defense with 8 sacks or a shut down corner that could help win 2 or 3 games. It just does not make sense when you have a project in Josh McCown already. That to me would be wasting 2 picks. What do you guys think about that.

What do I think?

I think Josh McCown MIGHT turn into a decent Backup QB.

He has done nothing to indicate he is the QB of the future. If anything...he looks like a Stony Case pick.

And I definitely disagree that drafting a potential franchise QB is ever a bad move.

How can you count on Mccown? The guy couldn't make it at division 1 in college and just because he was the 2nd stringer by default last year doesn't mean he is starting material. Can you honestly name one thing he did last year to show that he has the ability to be a starting, productive QB in the NFL.You draft Leftwich and let him sit the first 10 games and then you have your perrenial pro bowl QB for the next 10-12 years. If we don't we'll be back to early ninetites where we had something like 8 years in a row with a different starting QB.It's just such a no-brainer to me that he is the pick.Hell,he's faster than Suggs after coming off a broken leg.

I never said that Josh McCown was the answer, but if you use a first day pick on a QB you should give hime a chance to see what see's what he's got and if Leftwich is going to be such a stud why are 4 other teams going to pass on him when with 2 of them in need of a upgrade at QB. I will tell you why. In today's NFL it is too hard for a QB to come in and has instant sucess. I can only think of one that was a impact player and that was Manning. Daunte Culpepper started hot, but has faded. Vick only took one year, and in recent years that was super fast and that was for a #1 pick. There is too much of a gamble on high pick QB's. Cincinatti is a perfect example. How many high pick QB's are on the roster right now. You would have thought they would have learned there lesson by now. Of all of the QB's in the NFL that are stars how many are 1st round picks. I bet you could count them on one hand. Plus look at the last couple of Super Bowl teams. How many had QB's that were high picks, guys like Brady, Warner, Johnson, and Gannon(was not even drafted as a QB).

I just hope that Leftwich is gone before we pick so we aren't second guessing us not picking him when he starts going to the Pro Bowl regularly.

Cincinnati also has the worst scouting department in the league.Until last year,i believe, they left the scouting up to the position coaches and they may be a little busy during college football season.Bledsoe-Super Bowl,Collins-NFC champioship game,Manning-playoffs,Vick-playoffs,Mcnabb-NFC championship, Culpepper-NFC championship. It may not translate into a Super Bowl victory but alot of the #1 picks are the highest rated QB's and get their team to the playoffs.

Using that logic, why draft Suggs when you spent a third rounder on Dennis Johnson?

You would rather trust that Josh McCown is the QB of the future than bet that Dennis Johnson isn't our pass rushing DE of the future?

This makes absolutely no sense.

This is so friggin frustrating it's driving me insane.

What is the point of adding 2 or 3 more wins to a 5-11 football team?

I think that Leftwich will end up with the Bears.DT and DE are fairly deep in this draft so the Bears can get a widebody run-stuffer in Rd 2 .

Thing is we are not going to win the superbowl this year. To be a smart team you draft who will be the best player for years to come not who will help the team this year. Who has more carreer team impacting potential???? not Suggs!

it's the short-term thinking from a lot of people on this bord that infuriates me - I agree 11 - THIS TEAM AIN'T GONNA WIN JACK NEXT YEAR! Build for the future - like the Eagles, Jets and Titans did - Lefty's the man - take him and finally this team will have what they have been missing since 1988 (save one year -1998) - A LEADER!

Come on boys - The Blues Brothers part is easy - it's the hybrid line thrown in there that's hard. You want another line from the other movie?

While I think "franchise QB" and "Super Bowl" are used WWAAAYY too loosely with Leftwich, he is a rational pick for this team.

It's kind of fun this year. This is the first time in quite a while that I don't have a good feel on who we are drafting just a few days before the draft. The last top pick that really surprised me was Simeon Rice. Wadsworth, Boston, Jones, Shelton, Davis and Bryant were all pretty obivous picks when our turn rolled around. This year, I don't know what the heck is going to happen.

What?
Wasn't it the movie where his mother in laws money was his if he quit drinking, smoking and basically living? I can't remember the name of it though. His daughter was a total nymph and he got shot in the butt.

If your going by the number of question marks for a Bust Indicator, between Suggs and Leftwich it's Suggs hands down.

Is he an every down DE?
Can he play OLB?
How does he not get blown off the line on first down?
Why is he so slow?
Why is he so weak?
How did he train for a second workout, a crucial workout, and actually get slower?
How many adjustments does our entire front seven have to make for one guy if he's not on the line on first down?
Why aren't Walter Jones and Orlando Pace shaking in their boots? I dunno.

No it was not Easy Money - but he has one of the best musical numbers ever in that movie when he leads the enitre wedding party in Funniculi-Funnicula.

This we can all agree on. The first round this year is gonna be great.

I am the last Newman holdout I guess but here is why I like Leftwich over Suggs. First, the playing factor. Who in God's name said if they draft Leftwich he HAS to sit out a year? Unless he holds out (let's not go there right now) there is no reason to believe he couldn't come in and take the starting job. Blake was brought in to be the starter but if the Cards drafted Leftwich and he was clearly the better option does anyone honestly believe the coaches would bench him only because he is a rookie?

Second, the leadership factor. Plummer was a popular player around here but it seems he didn;t exhibit the leadership abilities any of us wanted him to show. I mean, we are now hearing how he didn't do the offseason program and it sounds like his film watching left a little to be desired. If any of you watched Leftwich, he showed a leadership ability (by example for sure and probably by word) when he gutted it out through the broken leg. Does anyone think that may have spurred his teammates at Marshall on knowing what he was doing? Think it may have made them play a bit harder? Bet your ass it did. I believe veteran NFL players would respond to him since they all saw what he did when he was playing this year. He will come in with a built in respect factor due to the way he conducted himself even when injured. Don't kid yourself. The pro guys know all about him.

Third, the arm. He has a huge arm. Trust me, I like Blake and I was pushing for him alot this season/offseason. His arm is excellent but I do think Leftwich may have the better arm not only for distance but for accuracy.

Cheesebeef is right. This draft is about beyond 2003. It is for the future and I think Leftwich would make a great pick over Suggs if available. Who will have the greater impact on games? A DE or A QB? My vote goes to QB every time. QBs control the game. Leftwich will rally the whole team IMO and that cannot be bad. I cannot see Suggs rallying them in the same fashion.
