Cable PPV question

I've ordered like 3 PPV movies in the past year but I haven't been billed for any of them. When I pull up my PPV history on the cable box it says 0 Past, 0 Pending, 0 Pre-Purchased...What the heck is going on? Did I "luck" out and get a broken box or should I worry that I'll get hit with all the charges on 1 month? Its been 6 months since the first PPV order. I haven't tried it on the other cable boxes as I haven't ordered anything on them so I am not sure if its that cable box for sure or just my cable period.

Anyone ever had a similar "problem"?

you should know better than to go lookin' a gift horse in the mouth like this. ;)

I am betting you're not ever going to get charged for any of the past ones...but future ones? No idea.

Whatever the PPV charge was supposed to be, put that amount of cash in a sock drawer. Keep ordering movies and keep putting money in the drawer. After a period of time, if they catch up with you you'll have the money to pay for it. If they don't, after a year or two, buy your family something nice.

Fixed ;)

I figured someone would say the "gift horse" thing...yeah, I think its broken in some way. I don't order PPV too often, maybe now I can convince my wife that if its free it doesn't really count as porn???

I disagree with the other comments.

Maybe it's just me and maybe I am just too honest, but they are providing you a service that they have to pay money for. They are entitled to receive compensation for the benefit you received to both cover their costs and make a fair market profit.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I don't like taking advantages of businesses that operate in good faith when they make an honest mistake. I pay cash for almost everything I buy at stores and sometimes they give me too much change. I always hand it back.

I would call them up and explain the situation. Maybe they will waive the charges, maybe it was a free promo you were not aware of, maybe they will charge you for something you were willing to pay anyway. Worst case, you would have the matter settled.

I probably agree too, but definitely wouldn't lose sleep over the issue. They keep fighting a la carte programming because it will weaken their position. Right now they can almost do whatever they want and definitely do not operate in a "fair market". The market structure for TV is at best an oligopoly (and a monopoly for many places). The silver lining is cable will be obsolete sooner than later thanks to broadband wireless.

I agree with you on the first point. How many cable channels do you actually watch? Maybe 10-15 out of the 150 offered? Dunno. But they will never offer a la carte service because then all their customers will cancel the 90+ channels they don't watch.

But on the other, I don't know. Satellite has made big inroads and made a big negative dent in cable subscribers. They have good lawyers and somehow made it that apartment complexes and homeowners associations can not deny a tenant a dish. There is competition, cable is not a monopoly in this.

So there is competition. I personally prefer satellite for TV. But I do like Cox for their cable internet.
