I know I should not start new threads especially when there is one below with Calais Cambell, but he deserves to be recognized with his own thread. The man is a pure beast and I understand that he was playing against 2nd teamers and such, but he really has the tools to be great. I just finished watching last nights game and he is everywhere again and I almost want to make the case he should start over Antonio Smith.

It is rare to see a guy his size penetrate the other teams O-Line, but it seems like he is a hot knife going through butter. Then throw in about 3-4 special teams tackles and some tackles where he ran back down field and I am really impressed. When we drafted him everything I read said his speed was just ok. I think he has game changing speed that does not show up on the 40's or the cone drill.

Looking at some of the replays from the last 4 pre-season games and the guy is around every play and really reminds me of Jason Taylor. A long bodied DE that causes havoc on the run and pass. Also watch some of the plays where he just sheds blocks like some child is holding on to him. The most glaring resemblance to Taylor though is watching how low he gets under the O-Line blocks. It is like his knees are bent like gumby and he uses it to springboard himself past the block. Throw in some arm strength and technique over the next 1-2 years and we might be looking at our best DE since Rice.

Does this board have a nickname for him yet ??

I call him Bubba Bleu from Forrest Gump but we can find a better name.

The cool part is he won't get run over by runningbacks like rice did.

I saw the game last night and quite agree...he appears to be the real deal....and Kenny ain't no slouch either. Having the flexibility of running gus on and off the field without missing a beat is a very big plus.

You mean Iwebema? His last name is the sound running backs make after he brings them down.

How about "Beast"?

He is supposedly a freak of nature athetically like previous DE's Peppers and Kearse. He would have been drafted like them too if not for his getting double teamd on a bad Miami team last year.

Shane,
On the Pace situation. I always thought Pace was decent, however last year he was stronger and quicker. I am wondering what might have been if Denny did not stunt his growth. Also look at JJ now. I think the light has suddenly come on. I realize pre-season means nothing, but the kid is stronger and now shows his speed. We also started watching his improvement close to the end of last year on a few screens and outside runs.

I believe Denny stunted there growth when he demanded instant success and they could not deliver. So what happens next is they get buried on the depth chart in typical Cardinal fashion. I hope we don't do the same with Leinart and I like how Whiz is trying to bring him along. I wonder what Denny would have done with the situation ??

I said it on another thread but I am going to repeat it. Our front seven will be the key to our success this year.

All the talk about the QB situation, Fitz's contract, Q's contract and everything else has taken the focus off many of the good things that this club has done.

Whiz gets it. The offense will be alright. The D got bolstered with under the radar free agents like Laboy and Haggans and a couple of rookies like Campbell and Iwebema. The nice thing about the 2 rookies is that we are not depending on them to carry this team. They will be inserted as needed while they learn the intricacies of the scheme.

If this defense can play like I think they can, we can overcome an occasional int or fumble by Warner..........

I'm really looking forward to this D taking a big step up this year! Canpbell will be a big factor before it's all said and done.

This guy looks like he should of been a first rounder. I would take this guy over Derrick Harvey.

I really like what I see in Campbell. Very strong, quick and has a motor that keeps on running. Its so nice to have the depth we have on the DL. Especially with youngsters CC and KI.

How can you say that when Harvey hasn't played yet? He may well be better but there's nothing to compare him to. Harvey may turn out to be next Bruce Smith. Let's hope Campbell is and you're right.

Along with Campbell, last years' 2nd rounder has really stepped up his play. Two weeks ago, Alan Branch was being called a possible bust.Since then, he has played light out.Hopefully it continues and we get 1st round production out our 2nd round picks.

I am liking this. Two years in a row, we get the guy in the second who many runored us to be taking in the first. I think both will be great for us in the near future.

Whiz might be figuring out how to use him better too. I rewatched the 67 yard run and I noticed that the team came out, huddled, ran a play, and immediately ran back to the line of scrimmage and ran the sweep with JJ without huddling.

It almost seemed like Whiz has figured out that JJ needs room to run and he caught the opponets a little off guard by not huddling and running a quick play allowing JJ a little extra time before the defense was really set.

They must have had two plays called when the team came on the field or have called two plays in the huddle becuase they didn't even call a play at the line of scrimmage on the JJ run. They just lined up and ran the play.

It will be interesting to see if they use that again with JJ in the game.
