Pay the man. Cards are going to end up
Paying 40% more than they would have in September.

CC is going to get paid, either by AZ or another organization. Lest we forget, this kid is still only 25 YEARS OLD, and has 5 sacks, 2 blocked field goals and an interception on the season. It is going to be expensive, I think 4-5 years at $10-12 MM per is going to be the price tag (look at Charles Johnson for a feel of what the market is willing to pay a great young d-linemen) and the longer we take to get the deal done, the more it is going to cost us down the line.

Pay the man and let's get this team back on track...

And if they did maybe he would be disgruntled in 2 years ala Boldin.
There is no way they don't resign him now.

Bump.....still waiting.

This organization sucks.

It was fun while it lasted to have a player to root for. But, yet again, he will leave, and we will be looking to develop more talent for other teams in the NFL.

Fricking hate this organization.

I asked Jurecki about this on twitter a few weeks back. He said he'll probably get franchise tagged if a deal isn't in place

Typical ass backwards thinking. They'll low ball him with every offer, then in desperation pay out the ass to franchise him, and he'll make far more than any 3-4 DE deserves.

If Graves and co. had a brain, CC would have at least a five-year extension by now. Instead, his market value has sky rocketed this season and it will cost probably 50% more to re-sign him than if the organization had done so before the season.

And I don't want to hear the Fitz extension as an excuse from these clowns. :bang:

yup. zero forward thinking, as usual.

or we'll franchise him and that will be the excuse that we use next off-season when we do nothing else to upgrade the team because his deal has yet to be worked out and is choking the cap because DE franchise taggers are a ridiculous amount of money.

But they had to wait to see if he was worth the money. :bang:

Actually (h/t to Chopper to pointing this out a month or so ago) with the new CBA (where it's becoming increasingly apparent that the players got screwed), only the top 5 salaries of the previous 5 years are being calculated for the Franchise Tag.

This leads to much lower franchise tag numbers (like 20% lower) than they would have been under the old system.

So guys like Jermichael Finley and Matt Forte are going to get incredibly, massively screwed, but Calais Campbell is only going to get really screwed by the Franchise Tag, and the Cards are going to get a really good player for an excellent salary.

Didn't know that, good news. I'd still rather lock him up, although showing no foresight his price tag goes up every week.

Yeah, I would rather lock him up as well. The cool thing is that the new franchise tag gives teams more leverage to sign players to 2nd contracts because players can't just bank 9 mil per year as they price themselves out for a franchise. Why would Campbell take a 1 year 6 mill deal, when he can get 5 years w/ 15 mill guaranteed.

Need him to re-sign so my authentic #93 jersey with the Super Bowl patch doesn't become obsolete

And so our defense doesn't get set back by about 30%

oh... that's good news... and still no reason he shouldn't have been extended by now.

Are we not still about $7 under the cap this year? Seems like that could be put to good use by extending Campbell before the season is over. We need to keep this young core together. For the first time in a long time I'm actually really excited about the potential for this defense.

Does anyone really think we're going to let Campbell walk? Because if you do, then you have a lower opinion of the front office and coach than I realized. I will be shocked, absolutely stunned, if Campbell isn't a Cardinal.

THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
The reason we let Antonio Smith go is because we drafted CC to replace him because he had so much potential and so young. If we let CC go this team just proves to me it doesnt know **** about ****. I mean why draft a guy to replace a guy to let a guy go, let me guess they are gonna draft someone younger and cheaper to replace him and in 3 years when he hits his stride proving to be a powerhouse we will let him walk too...

CC should have already been locked up, no questions asked.

seriously... when did you start following football?

I think we'll ultimately end up franchising him because that's what this inept FO does, but it still doesn't mean this deal shouldn't already be done and that a significant amount of the cost should be pushed into this year's cap space which would allow us more room financially to make upgrades elsewhere next year.
