The Suns are unlikely to invite a huge number of training camp guys this year. In prior years the Suns were seriously looking at guys who might make the roster. This year that is far less likely.
However, it is rare that a team will only include the minimum 13 guys on the camp roster, if only to control the number of minutes guys like Nash and Marion play in practice. At the same time, there is always the risk of injuries so adding guys who might be brought back on 10 contracts. Having a guy in camp makes bringing the player back a lot easier if only because they know the terminology.
IMHO, the best camp addition would be Lampe. I don't think he'll get a guarantee, but this is the best fit for him if he starts to emerge as a real player.
One guy I'd like to see them invite is Dajuan Wagner. He's another once great prospect who was a huge disappointment, had major surgery, worked to get back into shape and is now trying to catch on with somebody. Rumors are that he's talking with the Sixers, but so far nothing has been settled. He might not want to come to Phoenix because he'd have a poor chance of getting on the team, but the Suns style might be a good showcase if he really is healthy.
"There's a real likelihood that this is our team and we're real excited about that," Griffin said. "We've checked most of our needs off our list."
