WIth this offensive line be a solid QB for a few yrs. I have been asking myself this ? He can throw it long with the best he can play the tight end throw it in the seam game but can he check down and read a defense. He always had a running game in Cincy and NO....and came away without winning much...and then losing his job in NO. I like his upside as a vet but does he have the intangibles leadership, grit, moxy or whatever. OR is he just another Kent Graham or Gary Hodgeboom...

Blake didn't lose his job in NO, and he actually won some in Cincy. In NO he was leading them to the playoffs, broke his leg, and then Aaron Brooks came in and played well. Seeing how Brooks was younger and a more "exciting" player, they went with him and cut Blake after the next season. I think Blake is a great pickup for this team, he is a veteran who knows what he is doing. He won't lose games for us, but he could win some.

Ohhh I dunno about that. Blake was having his best statistical year but even that wasnt great. I mean he had 11 starts and in those games he only had 13 TD's. Sorry but 1.2 TD a game isn't enough for a QB. PLaying a full season you could predict his stats based on what he did thru his starts and he ends up with 19TDs, 13INT, 2945 yards passing, 353 yards rushing. And remember this was statistically probably would have been his best year.

Blake is an OK Qb, but lets not say he was the leader to the playoffs that year. What did lead them into the playoffs was thier d-line. Glover - 17 sacks, Johnson - 12 sacks, Howard - 11 sacks, Hand - 3 sacks.

Would you prefer to pay Jake 7 mil a year to have worse stats? Besides, it looks like Leftwich is who they target as the "Future"

I'd take his 95 season as his best. Even though Jason is correct that he had a .6 higher passer rating in New Orleans. What was nice about that season is that he wasn't killing them with turnovers, what we need here with our defense. No one is claiming he'll make the Pro Bowl again next year, or that he'll be the savior. But, I don't think it's unreasonable to say he'll help us compete and fill the gap for two-three years tops.

Don't forget that his record was 7-4 in those eleven games with the Aints as a starter before going down...

he's stopgap at best.Hopefully he'll start about 7-8 games and then Leftwich will take over for the next 10-12 years.Unless,of course,he leaves after his initial contract runs out like our recent #1's.The good thing about drafting a rookie QB is that their terms are usually longer than the usual 4-5 years because they don't play alot the 1st two years.I may be wrong but it seems like QB's usaully sign in the 7 year range, but alot of it is voidable.
