Cardinals have to spend a lot of cash this year per rules. There are degrees of that of course.

Multiple factors plays in here. Bidwill not being a billionaire and reluctance to spend big is definitely one of the them. And one that doesn’t get solved until Bidwill sells 10% stake to an investment firm that is allowed now.

On the other hand. Monti has a strategy. Like that strategy or not. But he is being consistent to that. Sweat at 18M is so much better than Williams at 26m. I have zero issues there. He uses free agency to find solid starters and the draft for stars.
But Monti now has to follow through with the rest of the strategy and plug the holes with solid starters.

He re-signed the key players IMO in beachum, Browning and Brown to have solid depth.

Sweat as a DE plugs one hole.

Now he needs to sign adequate starters at DT and LB.
Another G is also needed.

I will be pissed if we go into the draft with glaring holes forcing a specific pick (like LB Campbell).
That is what I hated with Keim.
Michael Bidwills net Worth is said to be 1.4 billion. So according to that he is a billionaire.

Yeah but I assume that is in Assets (the team) - not cash
The team is worth 4. something billion. The BW(s?) are worth the 1.4 b. There are some owners that are worth several billion, though. There are a couple worth a little less, too.

That was Michael’s worth. Doesn’t the 3 siblings have equal shares of ownership with Michael being the CEO/controlling shareholder?

1.4 per sibling = 4.2

Ok, my bad. I read an article the other day from "Business Insider" naming all the NFL billionaire owners (I wrongly thought that it was an ESPN article (it wasn't)). The article is entitled,

" Meet the billionaire owners of every NFL team"

It did say the Bidwill family was worth 1.4 b.
Again, my bad. That figure was in 2015.

Still a billionaire
True. But
No one has a billion dollars in cash bro. That’s stupid.
Really broh....

At least not as stupid as thinking that when I say cash I literally mean cash hidden under the bed and not liquid assets as opposed to assets tired into the ownership stake of the team that cannot be liquidated without selling the team....

Yes, I should read what you mean instead of what you say.

Pretty sure he could get easy cash loans against an asset like that. Though I'm not a billionaire, so rich rich people's finance strings are way above me.

Lots of people with big money on paper are afraid of losing too much if they spend money. Beyond the Cards I’m not aware Bidwill has any other revenue stream. That’s rare among owners.

Yes, they can. Building a winning team isn't about spending tons of cash, the Bidwills get enough of that. It's hiring the right people to draft, evaluate, coach and spend the right amount of money on free agents. Unfortunately, Mikey can't really hire the best because he is a clown owner that the cream of the crop wouldn't even consider. Same arguments that have been raging for many, many years.

Absent an owner without the Bidwill name or affiliation, same old, same old is ahead. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Poor, poor billionaires.
Reality. NFL teams do not have to win to make millions. NFL teams are not punished for losing. They get paid whether they make the playoffs or win 2 games.
Bidwill will only do the minimum of what it takes to be a real NFL franchise. His long term goal is to put as much on the bottom line as possible. To hell with winning.

Most playoff teams have many above average starters - how do you propose the Cards accomplish that goal with adding mostly JAG's in FA and mediocre drafts?

hey... Monti's plan is to draft stars... even though he hasn't shown the ability to do so yet, despite two top 6 picks and a bounty of draft picks throughout both drafts during his first two years.

It is always a mistake to head into a season thinking, believing and relying on your new draft picks.

It would be nice if the Bidwill’s would sell a minority stake in the franchise to infuse some cash into the operation. But that’s probably the farthest thing from Michael’s mind as he wants to cling to his family’s legacy.

can the cards afford not to compete? how many stilted suites can you sell to a ish show?

mikey's track record speaks for itself - if you want him to bust out the big boy check book you have to prove you can make the playoffs without it - even if it's a wildcard - even if you lose - that's when the mikey big bucks show up - and that's when the gm gets to compete
