We don't need Vernon Davis at 10. There are other needs and we have enough weapons as of now. Bergen is a better blocker and an adaquate reciever. We could land a pretty good TE in the 2nd/3rd round if we wanted one, they are in abundance this yr.

I would take Davis in a second! Who would you ever be able to double? Can you imagine what running lanes that would open up???? With Warner being the signal caller that he is I think it would be the right move. All you would have to do is be able to read a run or pass coverage, how could a team double or triple Fitz?

If we take Davis at #10 not only will he block but he'll do windows, bring you breakfast in bed, make a mean whiskey sour and score touchdowns in bunches.

I'm not even a proponent of drafting the guy.

It would be nice to have him and all, but I feel he would be under utilized here. Plus I am sure the Fins or someone else higher than the Cards fell in love with him at the combine. I am guessing he doesnt make it to #10.

The Fins draft 6 picks after us. They'd have to trade up to get him. If we don't pick him at #10 he'll likely be a Ram.

As of now he's my favorite for the pick...followed by Huff & Hawk(who I don't think will be there anyway). I don't think any of the OL are worth the #10 (after Ferguson) and I don't like Ngata at all.

IMO, the only problem I see with taking Davis is will there be enough touches to go around? It would only work if everyone is team first, personal stats second. If touches are not a problem (lack of that is) then take Davis. There should be no stopping our offense.

Maybe the Fins and us can make a trade? Would there be anything we want from Miami besides a little rainfall?

We will be a better team if Boldin and Fitzgerald both dont make all those catches and we distribute the ball around more; look at past teams, like the Colts of this year, Rams of 99, Vikings of 98, etc those teams had more balanced attacks and a multitude of weapons on offense. It makes it harder to prepare a good game plan on defense, and there is more insurance against injury if you dont put all your eggs in 1 basket.

Davis is a good blocker for his size. He needs work on sealing the end of the line and he can be bull-rushed. Still, he is good in space and had the quickness to handle blitzing linebackers and many of the speed rushers.

Yeah, if we take Davis, we should go o-line the next two picks if not the next three. I have been a big proponent of stocking our offensive line early in this draft. The guard and tackle positions are so deep that we can get quality players in the first 4 rounds. Stock our line this year and let them grow into starters down the line supplanting veterans like Milford Brown, Oliver Ross, and possibly Davis if he doesn't improve like we would hope. We have enough talent on defense to get away with this and our offense definitely has the skill players locked up. I don't love the QB's outside of round 1, so from rounds 2-4 I say that we load up on offensive linemen.

bergen is a crappy blocker. period. i'm willing to bet, just based on vernon's physique and drive, that he'll quickly be a better blocker than bergen.

I think he's more speed than strength. Although he has some he's undersized for the NFL. Pope would be a better choice IMO. 6' 7" 265.

Bergen also has more size than Davis. I just think we need to fill QBOF,RT and FS or WSLB 1st. Just MHO.

couldn't we use Davis as a WR as well?? Mix it up a little.

I'm really want Vernon on the team after Edge signed. I just think with so many targets D's wont know who to cover!! If someone goes down we will still have many targets. I don't know if it would be the best pick at 10 but it sure wouldn't be a bad one IMO.

If we take the O-line help in the 3rd and 4th round we don't need to take anymore. There will be undrafted guys we can bring in. As for Davis he is going to be a real good pro, that being said he is not a pressing need. If he is truly the BPA at the ten spot Green will take him. I don't believe for a minute he will be there.
