His career is RIP and so will be our playoff hopes if he is brought in to be a starter...I don't believe there is a single FA QB that would be an upgrade over Josh...

Johnson, I don't want as a back up... NO Johnson, No Gannon PLEASE!

I could see Kitna, even Ferrotte...as back ups...

We could give it a rest, but it will only start up again when denny brings him in for a workout. It doesn't matter what you think of him, people in the NFL still think he can play, or he wouldn't still be in the league.

If you want us to give it a rest than think of a more interesting topic that will make it so we think of other things... It's funny how posters like you that have a low post count often are the ones complaining about the posts but aren't contributing much to new ideas....

Hasn't the study of Shakespeare taught you anything about the folly of bold statements on that which cannot be truly foreseen? :D

Absolutely. Glad I didn't make a bold statement. I'd be VERY surprised to see McCown as our starter week one next year, and I'd be blown away if he actually played well. As to him making the playoffs? Well, let's just leave it to the freezing of precipitation and warm downstairs areas, eh?

The same could be said for many players. Just ask Jeff Blake!

QBs are starting to be like left handed relievers in baseball. As long as the arm is still attached, they can find work.

or Mark Brunnel, Doug Johnson, Johnathan Quinn, Rick Mirer, etc.

This is why I warned people about the "There's going to be a good Qb available that will easily beat Josh" argument. This is a QB starved league so there are tons of overdone talent that are being given plenty of chances because there is absolutely nothing available.

As far as Brad Johnson goes, it depends on what Dennis Green wants. If he wants a good mentor for our 2 young QBs than Brad Johnson would be a solid pickup. However if we want someone that is truly capable of starting for us as well as give good competition for our youngsters then we should stay away from him

So... I'm to understand that the Cards will not make the playoffs next season if McCown is at the helm.

The real possibility of an improved o-line... an improved running game... a better run defense... Boldin from day one... talented players from last year's draft with additional experience... this year's FAs and draftees....

All of this goes for naught, if McCown is at the helm.

Wouldn't that fall into the realm of a rather "bold statement".

I'm inclined to believe that the admonitions of the bard are still lost on you. :D

Why not bring in Jeff George to compete in training camp. The last time I saw him he still had a gun for an arm, he wouldn't cost much, he already knows Green's system. I never did know why he was blackballed in the NFL. f anyone here has a clue I would be very interested in hearing.

Because he was that much of a jerk everywhere he went.

I'd be okay with bringing him in to compete.

Yeah, basically. That's how little faith I have in McCown. Granted, I thought for the longest time that there was plenty of blame to go around in the passing game, from O-line difficulties in pass protection to receivers not getting open. Still, when the protection got better, when we SAW the receivers WERE getting open, when he had all his options healthy, we saw McCown choke, struggle, and fold. Why would he do any differently next year? If he can't improve over the course of a season, why is it going to be different next year?

Your insistance that I'm making a bold statement is like Falstaff in Henry IV parts I and II...I keep showing you why it's NOT a bold statement, and you come up with every reason under the sun, all of them flimsy and transparent, why it IS a bold statement. Btw, Falstaff was cornered and banished at the end of the second play ;) :D

What you keep showing me is that you're prepared to accept the possibility of improvement from everyone on the team except McCown. I find that evidence of being biased and rather bold... not to say - foolish.

Drew Brees, for example - was 10 W.-17 L going into last season, with an under 60% completion rate and.more Ints than TDs.

I can't recall that there was much demand on this board for bringing him in.

Now... a year later... everyone's a fan.

I expect that in the next few weeks the CARDS will invest over a 1-million in their belief, which I share - that McCown can improve.
