Aku Koskenvuo has just signed his entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks. The goaltender, who was picked 137th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Canucks, has played for Harvard University since the 2022–23 season. Koskenvuo and Harvard were just eliminated from the NCAA playoffs last weekend.

This season, Koskenvuo started 20 games for Harvard, putting up a record of 8–9–1. He registered a 2.81 GAA and a .902 SV%. His lone shutout of the season came against Quinnipiac University, during which he made 25 saves. He made quite the impression during Harvard’s three-game series against Clarkson University in the playoffs, making 88 stops throughout all three matches. In the team’s final game of the series, which they lost by a score of 2–1, Koskenvuo made 39 saves and put up a .951 SV%.

With his NCAA season now over, Koskenvuo signed a two-year entry-level contract with the club that drafted him. It will be interesting to see what the Canucks do with him, as there is currently a bit of a goaltending backlog within the organization that will only get deeper once Thatcher Demko returns to the lineup. With players like Nikita Tolopilo, Artūrs Šilovs, and Ty Young occupying the Abbotsford Canucks’ crease at a variety of times, there may not be room for Koskenvuo to find a spot in Abbotsford. In this case, he could report to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL and earn himself a call-up from there.
