Would you rather have Hump at LT and keep Justin Murray or Garcia at RG or...

Have Brandon Scherff at RG and Beachum at LT and Jones at RT?

I would rather have option 2. Because Kyler can handle edge pressure pretty well. He's always so deep he can see it coming and roll out. But he's absolutely garbage at handling interior pressure.

I wouldn't normally suggest this for any other QB, or if we had a LT I was actually confident in. But there isn't much difference off between Hump and Beachum frankly and it suits Kyler more to have a solid interior.

I understand your point but Scherff has missed 24 games in the past 4 years. He can't stay healthy. Why would we want that cap hit and lack of availability?

Early in season, Cards were scoring, what?, 30 points a game. Later it was 17 or 18 points. To me, the difference was not the defense. The offense, later in the season, was not controlling the ball well enough to keep the other team off the field. The OL was simply wearing down. When opponents were on the field a lot, our defensive liabilities were exposed big time, teams scored at will.

KISS rule: Upgrade at Right guard. One doesn't have to rid oneself of HUMP to do this.

Ok, replace Scherff with "top class guard of choice"

With our cap situation, we probably do. If you want a very good one I don;t believe we will have the space to carry a $19m cap hit for Hump AND a $15m cap hit for a very good RG.

The only other option would be to take a punt on someone like Norwell who hasn;t been good at the Jags and would likely has to take a drop in salary this year. And hope it was the Jag's effect making him poor.

The difference between Buffalo’s offensive talent & ours is speed & quickness. If/when Kirk leaves, Rondale will be the only one with that type of speed. Don’t think Ertz should be resigned either.
Ertz was pretty underwhelming overall, and Maxxxx proved to be a better player this year.

Still, If you can get Ertz for a reasonable price, I think you bring him abck.

The choice isn't HUMP or Guard-X. It's creating enough cap space to sign the upgrade at right guard: new deals, other cuts, creative cap management, etc. are all tools available to KEIM and Co.

Well yeah but I've looked at that and there just aren't the options to make that kind of space without losing a WR or not replacing CJ. Hence the proposition I made.

Imagine having $22m invested in Devon Kennard and Jordan Philips. Nobody would ever do that. Oh wait...

If they target a R-guard in FA, I doubt very much it will be at the expense of losing the left side of the O-line.

For example: they can extend both Hump and Pugh, lowering their cap hit, and create enough space to sign a r-guard with a contract spread that isn't onerous in year one of the deal.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kyler needs a 20 yard pocket with the way he snaps from the gun and then runs backwards. He makes Hump look bad because he’s asking the impossible. If Kyler would grow a pair and step up in the pocket, Hump would be more than adequate.
if he steps up into the pocket he will plant his face in his centers ass. H needs space because he is 5 ft tall.

Other than Hopkins who strikes fear into the hearts of our opponents? The Bills offensive line makes ours look like pop Warner. Even a guy like Gabriel Davis averaged 17 yards a catch with 7 tds.

Yes, Kyler has to step up as well as Kingsbury and Keim. They aren’t going snywhere. So revamp the o- line add some size and speed to our Wr room, keep Ertz but add depth because I don’t know if we can count on Williams and decide what to do with the rb’s.
Take all excuses off the table for Kingsbury and Kyler. If they can’t get it done then whoever comes here would have a decent offensive roster.

Look at the Rams. Kupp, OBJ, Jefferson, and Higbee. Don’t forget Woods. This is our main competition in the division. You can’t really believe our talent is equal to theirs.
I said our talent is equal to or greater than Buffalo's (which it is). Did not mention LA.

In one of my post I mention the offensive weapons of all the remaining playoff teams. The Rams are the ones we should be most concerned about. We can’t even come close to the weapons they have.

Maybe.

I really hope we don’t bring both back though. Ertz couldn’t separate even in his prime & Maxx is coming off a severe injury. I wouldn’t mind WR & TE being 2 of our first 3 picks.

The depressing part of all these conversations is trying to figure out which holes to fill first..they're everywhere!

Thanks for the clarification.

Unfortunately, its a bad year for free agent guards.
Ben Jones( as Harry has mentioned) is an outstanding center and very good guard. Not only an upgrade but adds versatility and depth. We all saw the drop off when Hudson went down
We really need to stack this o-line. Enough praying for a rookies, back ups or oft injured players hoping they’ll hold up. No more bandaids.

Interesting, I did not follow him closely in Philadelphia but Ertz seems constantly getting open during his 11 Cardinals' game.

I wonder why the Eagles’ offense kicked into another gear after they traded him.
