I think we are going to have a team much like the Cards of the early and mid 70's under Air Coryell. Opposing teams will not want to see this Cardinal offense step on the field with 4 minutes to go and down by less than 7.
Thats the way we felt when The Cardiac Cards were at their best. Very often we'd see a 4 play 75 yard drive.
I also think as this season rolls on, the Cardinal front office are going to look like geniuses for signing Troy Walters. I believe before this season is over he will play a huge role in 2 or 3 victories this year with his receiving and punt returns.
Fasten your seatbelts, observe the no smoking sign because Air Green is about to take off. It will be a bit of a bumpy ride, but rest assured we will not be bored this year.

Are you suggesting we actually are air-assasins with the 2-minute drill?
The Cardinals???

Oh that would be AWESOME! First off that would mean were in every game in the closing minutes. Secondly...we have a chance!

Those are the funnest games to watch. Last possession baby...last possession!

I'm hoping the offense is that good, but I'm also hoping the defense will be better than those days.

The very big difference is the Cardac Cards had perhaps the best offensive line in the NFL. We could not only pass but we could run. We also had one of the best ever offensive Head Coaches for some of that period. Not a bad defensive backfield either with All Pro Larry Wilson heading them up.

Larry Wilson retired in 1972. One year before Don Coryell arrived.

I think you mean Wehrli not Wilson but yes the OL on that team was ridiculously good Hart never got hit.

Actually less, if that's possible. But what an arm.

The key was that most of Hart's career took place pre in the grasp rule and Hart was very good at slipping the sack long enough to get the ball off. I think he got sacked 7 or 9 times once in an entire season. Now we weren't exactly the Raiders in terms of deep routes that year but we weren't a WCO team either we threw the ball downfield, but the OL just kept Hart clean and when someone got close Jim did his best to avoid the sack.

that team was why I became a Card fan I was born in Missouri but I lived in California from 18 months old on. I liked the uniforms, liked the helmets and loved how exciting the team was. If we can be even close to that exciting again I'd be thrilled.
