My personal favorite moment was the feeling when we drafted Leinart...I remember being pretty drunk from the night before and running downstairs jumping over other party goers to watch the draft...and waking everyone in the house up when he slid to the Cards at 10. Of course, it hasn't quite panned out (yet!) but just the feeling of getting someone that slid is amazing. Also the same with Beanie last year, but without the pre-partying :)

I felt the same way with Matt.

Beanie is my single favorite 1st round pick for the Cardinals since I have been following the draft for many years.

Here is my reaction from that moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmWBhPdxA5w

The only thing about Simeon Rice, who was good, but played longer for other teams, is that we bypassed Jonathon Ogden for him. That was not good times. We could have had Ogden for 10 years.

My top 5 Best/Worst all-time

Best #1 picks

1) Ottis Anderson-all time leading rusher
2) Fitz-proved his worth as he led Cards to 1st Super Bowl with great post season
3) Simeon Rice-pass rusher deluxe, one of the best pure pass rushers ever
4) Eric Swann-people laughed at the selection, best pure talent I have ever seen at DT. Knee injuries ruined what could have been a HOF career
5) Luis Sharpe-10 starter at LT

Worst

1) Steve Pisarkiewicz-who? I remember watching him suck after Hart was injured against Dallas
2) Kelly Stouffer-why would you draft a QB to replace Neil Lomax?
3) Wendell Bryant-never had the desire to be good
4) Steve Little-great college kicker, the problem was he kicked off a tee
5) Randall Hill-traded a #1 to Miami for the "thrill" of watching him bust.

List your top 5

From your best list Rice was a great pass rusher but we passed on Jonathan Ogden to get him when we needed a LT. I felt that pick set the franchise back for years because instead of having a HOF left tackle we had a pass rusher who didn't play the run and eventually left. Now if the rumor was true, Ogden's agent told us do not draft him we won't sign so we picked Rice.

On the worst list we picked Stouffer because of the hip injury to Lomax. It shocked everyone because nobody knew yet about the hip, it wasn't public. In fact ESPN somehow got wind of it but had the rumor wrong and they reported that some teams had taken Stouffer off their board due to a hip problem. He had no problem with his hip, it was Lomax they got it wrong. Was still a bad pick but I know why we took a QB there.

Little wasn't even the only time we flubbed a K, we picked John Lee in round 2 and he was a bust also.

For my money the worst pick ever was Clyde Duncan in '84, it literally cost us a playoff berth instead of having Offensive ROY Louis Lipps we picked Duncan he held out, signed late and was a bust.

Russ, I might be wrong (the mind starts to go w/age) but I didn't think Lomax had hip problems until the '88 season?

This is easy -

Best - Getting a lap dance prior to Beanie getting picked last year and then giving the stripper a lap dance after the selection in pure joy.

Worst - Passing on T. Suggs. That was rock bottom for me as a Cards fan.

It wasn't public but he had already had hip problems. I saw Stouffer talk about it on tv several years ago. He said he was surprised as everyone else when the Cards picked him but he later found out Lomax had a hip problem that they were concerned about and decided to take a QB. He even commented about how ESPN had spread this rumor about HIS hip and he didn't know at the time what was going on until he found out about Neil's hip.

What is really ironic is that Lomax had one of his two best seasons for the Cards and was selected to the Pro-Bowl in 1987 the year the Cards drafted Stouffer.

and well on his way in '88 until he got hurt in the Giants game in AZ. Didn't we lose the rest of our games after a 7-4 start? Neil never played another down after the season ending loss to the pack giving the Cowpies Aikman as the #1 pick. :bang:
