The Free agents that can be signed after June 1, with approximately 16.5 million cap space. About 3.5 million for the draft picks aside.
1 Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE, age 29, 6' 5", 255, 2021 stats: 33 tackles, 20 solo, 9 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. Contract 3yrs. @ $36 million, cap space 6 million after bonus.
2. Larry Ogunjobi, DT, 6' 3", 305 age 27, 2021 stats: 45 tackles, 33 solo, 8 sacks. Contract 3yrs. @ $12 million, cap space 2 million after bonus.
3. Billy Price, Backup Center/Guard, age 27, 6' 4" 315. Contract 2yrs. @ $3.5 million.

All signs are pointing to Clowney going to CLE.

Possible 'buy on the cheap' targets:

D-L: Eddie Goldman (28), Akeim Hicks (33)

Edge: Kyle Van Noy (31)

CB: V. Hargreaves (27), R. Alford (34)

RB: P. Lindsay (28), D. Williams (27)

WR: Will Fuller (28)

Some others I like for age and upside.

Rasheem Green - Had 6.5 sacks for the Seahawks last year and still only 24. Former 5 star recruit and 3rd round pick.

Sony Michel - Had a quietly decent season for the Rams with 805 yards and 4.1 per. What you want in a rotation.

Adam Humphries - I'm looking at depth. Lots of experience, played for vet min last year. Solid vet min depth. Can take on some of the Edmonds/Kirk work.

Michel would be a good cheap pickup. not much of a pass catcher out of the backfield though.

Michel is a good example of the folly of paying James Conner $7 million a year. This guy is going to collect $2 million next year and he'll probably outperform Conner.

I know you have been against Conner signing all offseason, but it was the play they had to make. I can't argue that he is overpaid either if he continues his production, or anywhere near it.

Conner can catch. He had like 5 highlight one hand catches last year. In only like 7 games of usage.

Michel is a poor receiver.

Good receiving backs always get paid more.

Michel has a faster 40 time than Chase Edmonds with an extra 10lbs...
Ah, yes, many knee/leg injuries/procedures/surgeries ago. He also averaged a low YPC just like Conner did. Maybe you can defend a mediocre signing like that one, too.

Since he ran that time he's had minor foot surgery in the offseason of 2020 and a minor fluid drain on his knee in rookie camp. No ACL tears, or major legs injuries since he was drafted.

The only games missed through injury in the NFL were 3 as a rookie after that fluid drain and 6 with a quad strain in 2020. No major leg or knee injuries as you suggest.

No slower than Edmonds. But then it was always a myth that Edmonds was quick.

One between Ogunjobi or Hicks would help
I can see us drafting a big size nose tackle in later rounds

I watched a fair share of Rams games last and Michel wasn't as good as his counting stats. The Rams system, which is similar to the Niners is real RB friendly.

Michel is a pretty mediocre player with no special attribute.

Edmonds is significantly faster than Michel. Let's not rely of 40 times for draft prep as our litmus.

A few years back the Bears were pretty bullish on Goldman...

That’s a nice list. Each has warts but if they remain healthy can be contributors.

Michel is noticeably visibly slower than Edmonds. People need to stop relying on draft day times and believe what they see on the field when players have been in the league 3+ years.

I've never been impressed with Edmond's speed. He's quick rather than fast, and definitely lacks long speed. I don't remember seeing him run away from people very often as opposed to making them miss.
