I was 10 when I watched this dude play. He and Earl Campbell were my favorite players back then. 79 was arguably both of their best seasons.

mack was "the other Roy Green" they converted him to WR and reports were nobody could cover him in practice. And in games in fact he got wide open too, but kept dropping passes so they eventually just kept him at DB.

how was that controversial? The replay shows Harrell caught the ball, got hit by a DB which knocked him down still with the ball in his hand, and then another defender ran into the ball with his leg and knocked it loose but Harrell is already on the ground with the ball down? I don't remember that play at all but I can't imagine why that would be controversial the replay is pretty clear. Even today with all the rule changes I think that's a clear catch.
