Funny -- just this morning I was thinking about trades and starting this thread, and then the Harvin news breaks.

My question for the board: Who do you think the Cards should make a trade for to fill a hole?

the constraints for realism:

The trading team has to have 2 wins or less ( meaning, 2014 is already over for them)

the player being acquired is 30 yrs old or more ( thinking teams dont trade guys in their prime) I will accept younger if they are in the last year of a contract.

My suggestion:

Acquire Calvin Pace from the Jets for some pass rush and olb depth. Versitle player also good against the run.

Rumors are that Buffalo is looking to move CJ Spiller. The Cards could use another RB.

If we just brainstorming, I'd like to pick up picks, not troubled players. If a coach is unloading a serious talent at this time of the season, it's because something aint right. In the Draft, we can get all the "Team Captains" we so much desire. Arians has done a great job coaching, but Keim has done an even greater job drafting the type of players that don't plague a locker room. Players that have such a strong mentality, that they can come in and start and be efficient. making BAs next man up style possible, keeping our season afloat while being stomped on with injuries.

So I'm game for picking up some picks, even some later picks but I can't jeopardize this season, I mean, we are winning it right now man. We are deep in receiver, and I would love to get anything for that side line chasing HIP HOP HOORAY

But AGinn... ? I don't see anybody being into him.... but I would plead a fifth or a fourth?

RB isn't the issue. Linebacker is a major issue as is an edge rusher. I would honestly call Cleveland and see what it would take to re-acquire Dansby and I'm still baffled as to why we didn't spend a little bit of money and sign James Harrison just for the year. Hell, I'm not against signing Michael Sam away from Dallas.

Harrison hasn't played well at all. I'm glad we didn't get him. Their D sucks and he can't even get on the field. I'm not against trying for Sam and said it at the time, but it's true he doesn't fit our scheme and hasn't even flashed in Dallas even though they aren't talented on D either.

Spiller hasn't done anything in over a year, maybe two, and I'm against that move. Same thing with Johnson--he was bitching about his carries the last two years and I don't want that in our lockeroom. You don't hear any player on our team complaining, and I'm against bringing in a selfish player to poison our lockeroom. Don't care how good they think they are.

Nobody is going to give up an edge rusher. Too valuable. Just like tackles and linemen in general. They aren't there to be had.

And Dansby is a pipe dream. Their team is playing well. Not to mention we still won't pay him even if we could. Dansby is 25th in the league for combined tackles anyway, a far cry from last year. There isn't anyone on our team better than that though and he does have 2 sacks and an INT already.

Housler, Ginn, Larsen, Logan Thomas, Dwyer, 3 footballs, Paul Calvisi, and a 2nd round pick to Kansas City for Justin Houston.

KC is in the thick of things. Even if they weren't, they aren't givng up on a guy in his 4th NFL season on his rookie contract. Ditto for Cleveland-- the cap hit on a guy they just signed (Dansby) doesn't make dealing him possible.

Robert Mathis tore his Achilles.

One more suggestion:

Manny Lawson of the Bills -- currently behind Jerry Hughes ( who has resurrected his career in Buff).

I'll throw a super long shot out there: Brian Orakpo

The Redskins are done for 2014. Orakpo is playing on a one year franchise tender. One year tender deals usually don't end well for the tendering team. Redskins drafted local product Trent Murphy in the 2nd rd this year who plays the same position. Looks like the Redskins know he won't be back.

Do you give up a middle round pick for a rent a player type deal, and hope that he likes it enough that you can resign him in the offseason ( my understanding is that NFL rules say that since he signed his one year tender, you cant sign him to a multi year deal until the season is over). Given the Cards cap issues, is there enough room for another big contract like Orakpo?

Food for thought.

Dolphins for Dion Jordan or Cameron Wake.
Chiefs for Tamba Hali.

Not many others id give anything up for.

Dion Jordan has had two drug suspensions in his first two seasons. No thanks

Wake fits the bill. Not sure the Phins are ready to give up on 2014 yet ( and trading maybe your best defensive player would say that)

Chiefs are playoff contenders. That are buyers not sellers.

Darren McFadden from the Raiders. A more explosive RB, who is also bigger, and can absorb some punishment. He wouldn't cost much.

Orakpo is really interesting, because I would think the Redskins would move him. Maybe a 4th? I'm not sure I would give him a long term contract which limits what I would give up for him.

the two most intriguing names noted here: CJ Spiller and Brian Orakpo

both lost for the season this sunday

this thread is the kiss of death ---

I am thinking the Cards trade for either Colin Kaepernick or Russel Wilson

I think McFadden is an interesting name ---

as for Orakpo --- he might be a pretty affordable option this offseason

a guy coming off an upper body injury ( as opposed to a knee, etc) --

who has been productive when healthy, but is a bit injury prone
