Bradley Sowell, who has been the backup at left tackle behind Jared Veldheer, took all of the first-team reps at right tackle as the Cardinals returned to practice at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Bobby Massie, the team’s regular starting right tackle, split time with rookie D.J. Humphries when the second-team offense was on the field.

Don't like hearing this. DJ better make his move in the next 3 weeks.

I don't read anything into this except that with him having a freshly dislocated finger, they are giving him fewer reps to deal with right now.

ADDENDUM:
Massie will not be playing for the first game and probably more----------they already know what he can do from the Chief's game. Now they need to see who is likely next man up to cover for Massie's absence due to suspension.

kinda thinking they just want Sowell to be prepared to play either side...wasn't he supposed to be the backup LT?

If Hump steps in while Massie is suspended we still need a guy to backup Hump

Smart Insurance Move.

Massie suspended. Back-up is a rookie dealing with injuries. Sowell need to take snaps here if DJ isn't ready to start week 1.

Too lazy to look it up again but I'm pretty sure Sowell didn't play a single snap in a regular season game last year. I 'spose they need to give him work just in case they need him.

Coaching staff believes that Humphries is a year away from being ready. Somers indicated this on XM Radio this morning. The do not want to put a rookie out there who isn't ready and have him blow an assignment that gets Palmer killed. So Sowell will most likely fill in for Massie while he is on suspension.

Well I am sure the coaching staff will devise a way to protect Palmer all they can and not leave Sowell on an island. TE and RB blocking on pass plays and such.

They may damn we'll be right, but I think DJ had the best game of any Olineman, especially for the amount of game he got. In fact he was nasty in the run game which isn't his forte.

I still think BA is trying to piss this guy off with these comments & it worked for week 1. I just can't see Sowell starting unless any injury occurs.

I thought Sowell looked solid---but I too loved to see DJH get nasty all the way through the whistle. What feet and jolt ability!

They have left him on an island before leaving CP vulnerable. That's why DJ better get his act together. I don't like Sowell starting at RT

Yup, Sowell WILL get Palmer hurt unless he has TE help and giving him TE help never worked for our offense.

I agree with I do not want Sowell starting unless under emergency situations. Scares the heck out of me.

Yeppers.

He showed me he responded well to the criticism where some dont, so let's see what he does in week 2. I had this guy pegged a star & the best OT before we drafted him.

Exactly why I see no shot Sowell starts the 1st 3 games. Call it motivation for DJ because of BA words & criticism.

The difference for now is that Sowell knows all of the plays---DJH does not. Kind of like the Lindley & Thomas situation.

We all know how well that worked out;)
But I'm not a fan of either QBs

How in the heck did the Pats sign Blindley? Lol

I agree, Massie is out at least 2 games, need to groom a starter now. No need to rush DJ into starting lineup, if he beats out Sowell then he'll have earned it and we'll know he's ready.

Bring back Levi. There's a thread saying we don't have any elite players, two problems solved :D.

Yeah, and he (Isles) matched the number by a bad showing. To his defense I do believe he was playing LT at the end if the game (he's a guard)

Right now both Sowell and DJ are not very good. Hopefully DJ gets a lot better by the end of the preseason. Neither are very good in pass pro but both are not bad run blocking. Right now neither one is half the player Bobby Massie is.

Sowell started at LT with Massie at RT no less than 2 years ago.

Just sayin'
