Todd Heap, Kevin Kolb, Stewart Bradley, Adam Snyder and Daryn Colledge... all of our "high profile" acquisitions the last two seasons, all questionable signings, all for big money... all on contracts that hurt our cap... and yet some people thought it would be wise to not fire Graves, but just keep him in charge of contracts.

thank God Graves is gone.

Yes, Graves was a disaster! As long as he was with the Cardinals, what does that say about the decision making ability of the Bidwills?

This means nothing, we were 8 or 10 M over the cap at this point last year, and ended up 8 M under before we resigned Campbell and made some other moves.

In passing, I doubt that Keim who in first press conference said that the O-line needed to be more physical would be dropping Levi Brown - the teams' most physical lineman.

Cuts I would make ASAP :

Levi
Skelton
Lindley
Bradley
Snyder
Lenon
Heap
Wells

If my math is correct, cutting Levi next year doesn't save us money. We'd accelerate the 5.6m left on his signing bonus while saving his 4.75m base salary. Maybe after June 1st he gets cut so we can divide it over 2 years.

Bradley would save us 2m if we cut him before June 1st or 3.5m after.
Skelton and Lindley are negligible for cap purposes.
Snyder costs us ~1m before June 1st or saves us ~1m after.
Lenon is a free agent
Heap we already released
Wells makes ~1M next year. Small savings to cut him I think.

Makes no sense to cut Levi. He isn't that expensive and we have him tied up for a few years. If we draft a top three OT or pick up Long as a FA we will like having Levi as a RT or OG.

Depending on who is actually hired as HC, one possible cut that no one is talking about is Dockett. Some coaches simply believe, you are either with the program, or you are not. It was clear this past season that there were times that Dockett was not completely with the program.

A new coach may not be willing to play that game with Dockett, and might want him out of the locker room. The cap space should be significant I would guess, and may further prompt a new HC coach to ask for this, (especially if there is a particular need that could be had in free agency with that money). I'm not advocating his release, simply pointing out a possibility to create some real cap space.

The Cardinals have been 10mil under the cap and are still not players in FA. Kolb will be gone.

What's Dockett's contract like? Somer's has mentioned a few times the possibility of DD being traded. Maybe Dockett is a bargaining chip to trade up in the draft.

9/1/2010: Signed a six-year, $56 million contract. The deal contains $30 million guaranteed, including a $15 million option bonus in the second year. Dockett is eligible for annual $250,000 workout bonuses. Another $500,000 is available in incentives. 2013: $4.45 million, 2014: $5.5 million, 2015: $6.55 million, 2016: Free Agent

So, 9 million in signing bonus left for us to eat if we trade him.

dunno

I dunno - Looks like a mess - regardless of Keims retooling idea - We need a 5 year plan- not a 1 year plan. it is like untaking a whiz! messy

NFC West Salary Cap Info

TeamCarryover2013 SpaceSeahawks$13,200,000$18,600,00049ers$859,000$3,900,000Rams$247,000$1,800,000Cardinals$3,600,000-$723,000Source: ESPN's John Clayton

And in looking at the latest figures from ESPN's John Clayton, Seattle appears best positioned, at least initially, to operate freely from a cap standpoint in 2013. I use the word "initially" because cap situations can be fluid. Teams can often clear room quickly when necessary.

Clayton's latest mailbag notes that teams are managing a flatter cap by pushing unused space into the future. Seattle did this on a large scale in 2012, one reason the team has $18.6 million in space for 2013.

Per whom?

It's pretty easy to get under the cap. Stewart Bradley will be completely gone; that'll save $2.5 million on the 2013 cap.

If Kevin Kolb agrees to a salary reduction, and we don't have to cut him outright, then we'll save another $3-5 million against the cap. Maybe we can force a salary reduction on Adam Snyder.

Seriously. Every last player on this team except for Daryl, Calais, or PP could stand a pay cut based on this year's results. This is a non issue at this point in time.

They were saying on the radio today that the Cards are "up against" the cap. Whether that means near, or over, I don't know. A big-time free agent may be something we don't have an opportunity at this year, but I agree with you that are are plenty of opportunities to reduce the cap hit of certain players based upon crummy performance.

Our deal with Kolb sure did not help our CAP situation or our team performance.

I'm not worried either. This team needs to re-sign it's defensive free agents, maybe sign some fringe starters at S, CB, LB, DL, TE, RB, and have a great draft. Anything other than that should be considered a luxury.

In regards to our current roster, there is some dead weight we can get rid of. Bradley is likely gone, and Kolb, Skelton, King, Colledge, and Adrian Wilson will all be getting evaluated. I actually like Snyder in favor of Colledge because of his contract and versatility. Unfortunately, Colledge might not be cap friendly to cut.

we have worse!

Man Our players were not in position to succeed, encouraged or supported- We don't know what we have - I mean Alan Branch is leading the #1 Seahawks defense! Antonio Smith is leading the Texan's front!

I caught all hell and a ton of brimstone for saying that DD was not our leader nor worth his 2nd early contract. He is very good but he is not elite like his paycheck.

How can you continue to blame Watson, Branch and now Dan Williams because DD is undersized and takes plays off- yea he demands a double team sometimes but he can beat double teams when he is playing for a contract-

Both the Niners and the Seahawks have sustained enthusiasm and support from their HC. unlike Singletary and now whisenhunt- benching them for 1 fumble or ripping them in the press.

Total: 89.9 million against the cap.

I have in bold all the names I would look at, and there is probably at least one or two other names that should be listed but I can't bring myself to "bold" them.
