Cardinals Add 11 Rookie Free Agents
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, April 28, 2003 3:54pm

Tempe, Arizona —- The Arizona Cardinals have
supplemented their seven-player 2003 draft class by
reaching contract agreements with 11 undrafted free
agents.

South Carolina’s Dennis Quinn was a three-year starter,
recording 111 tackles, 4 quarterback sacks, and 11
tackles for loss. Another Gamecock, tackle Watts
Sanderson, originally played on the defensive line but
switched to offensive tackle as a sophomore and last
year earned second team all-Southeastern Conference
honors.

Last year in his only season at Idaho, Talifaia Atoe
recorded 51 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 2 forced
fumbles, and a team-best six quarterback sacks.

Robert Cromartie started 35 of 41 games at Florida,
collecting 204 tackles and 29 pass deflections. Last
year he started all 13 games for the Gators and
recorded 74 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 8 pass
deflections.

Lorenzo Diamond started 24 of 47 games at Auburn and
finished his career with 46 pass receptions for 532
yards (11.6-yard average) and four touchdowns.

Despite playing fullback, Phillip Doolin eclipsed the
1,000-yard receiving mark last year at Arkansas
Pine-Bluff with 46 receptions for 1,021 yards for an
eye-popping 22-yard average with 11 touchdowns. In
addition, he authored a 92-yard pass reception for a
touchdown and 72-yard kickoff return.

Speedy Lawrence Hamilton started 26 of 33 games during
his career at Stephen F. Austin, catching 87 passes for
1,609 yards for an impressive 18.5-yard
average-per-catch and 13 touchdowns.

Colorado State’s Rhett Nelson started 13 games for the
Rams last year, recording 52 tackles, 3 tackles for
loss, 14 pass deflections , and a team-best 3
interceptions.

Oklahoma’s Antwone Savage, an accomplished wide
receiver and kick returner, earned all-Big 12
Conference honors all four years for the Sooners. He
finished second on the school’s all-time career list
with 148 pass receptions (1,908 yards, 12 touchdowns)
and 937 kickoff return yards (36 returns). In
addition, his career kickoff return average of 26 yards
topped the previous OU record of 25.9 yards by Lance
Rentzel (1962–64).

With a single-season school record 75 pass receptions
for 1,140 yards and 14 touchdowns last year, Reggie
Newhouse became Baylor's all-time receptions (183) and
receiving yards (2,552) leader. He also ranks among
the top four in all-time Big 12 Conference receptions
and receiving yardage. He is just the second player in
Baylor history, and one of only eight in Big 12
Conference anals, to eclipse the 2,000-yard career
mark.

San Diego State punter Brian Simnjanovski, who owns two
of the top three single-season punting averages in
school history, posted a 42.1-yard average last year on
60 punts. He etched his name in the Aztecs’ record
books with averages of 43.6 yards in 2001 and 42.8
yards in 2000.

Two USC Gamecocks! Awesome, though I was hoping we would bring in Wayne Adkinson from USC since he is a lot like M-Rob.

Is no one impressed with the 16 second turnaround? I thought that it was amazing!

I'll second that. he has blazing speed.

How is he as a WR? Graves seemed to suggest Johnson was going to be the punt returner when he spoke about the pick.

It's alright.

I'd really like to see what it's like on the field, because I don't put much stock in workout numbers...

Yes you are amazing! Thanks for the scoop.

Can anyone else amaze me a bit more by telling me how any of our 39 WRs will get a good enough look to determine if they are keepers?

My opinions is he is a fairly polish speed wr. Played a huge role in a pretty good wr core at Oklahoma.

I ahve really only heard of Lawrence Hamilton and Antwone Savage. Both marginally good WR's with Hamilton hvaing a bigger upside then Savage...

Any one have any info?

Rhett Nelson is the only one I can really say anything about. I bet you a buck the dude makes the team over crap like Stone and Rhinehart. He is a flat-out awesome special teams player.

Great job Jim....as usual.

Rhett Nelson was one of the guys I was extolling yesterday during the latter rounds. He's another of what I feel a lower round pick should be.....lots of upside, maybe a little raw, and just needing some more time and good coaching. My stats have him at 6' 200 lbs, and a 4.34. My notes said.....".could be good, a little raw?"

Typically they bring in a punter each year so there will be someone to "challenge" Scott player. Last year, if memory serves me correct, they did not bring one in because Tim Duncan was a punter and placekicker in college. I could be wrong about that.
