But aren't they already in camp on time? Doesn't the protection of the injury waiver that both Jonhson and Pace signed cover training camp? If so, doesn't that allow Graves to move at the pace that has been mentioned (beginning negotiations in "hardcore" in July) with out the fear of a hold out?

The waiver will mean nothing in July...when it is critical for them to be practicing. They won't step foot in Flagstaff unless they are signed so while the improvement of the injury waiver to get them into minicamps is an important step, Graves must have them signed to deals on time. Again I go back to the one step forward (getting the injury waiver situation rectified) and two steps back (if Graves doesn't get them inked to deals prior to training camp starting).

40yearfan, I am not negative on this because that is who I am. The wariness comes from a history of issues with this organization getting first rounders in on time and all the associated chaos surrounding this team. Until things change, nobody can reasonably expect the first rounders to be in on time since historically it has been shown they will fail in that goal.

Andre Wadsworth.....

Simeon Rice......

Leonard Davis.......

All guys who signed the injury waiver and practiced in minicamps. All guys who held out. The waiver deals reached with Pace and Johnson are nice in that it doesn't repeat last year's fiasco with Bryant. And, we can perhaps grab a bit of a glimmer of hope from that for training camp. But, looming in the near future:

ESCALATORS

VOIDABLES

Those were in the deals with last year's #17 and #18 picks in order to jack up the bonus. History.... hell, we all know the history of Bidwill when it comes to things like that. We'll see if history repeats itself.

dammit!!!!

.... Cardinals franchise worth about 400 million, Bidwill's own a couple racetracks and maybe another interest or two. They get guarenteed TV money. If Bidwill would relax in his stubborness about remaining in the NINETEENTH century vis a vis escalators and voidables, it would change the perception about the Cardinals. Fans would see they are trying to join the rest of the NFL in trying to WIN. Agents would change there feelings about the Cards. Every year at this time of year i get more and more pissed as camp approaches and the Cards 1 round pick(s) is/are holding out AGAIN, because of Bidwill's policies - please oh please godz of football - make Billy Boy see the light! I will sacrifice a Cowboys fan in your honor...

ESCALATORS...VOIDABLES
No truth to the rumor that Mr. B has a sign in his office which reads: "If you want escalators, go to a mall."

With the exception of seriously addressing the WR corp or the pass rush through free agency, I think Graves has come through on everything he has publically stated he would get done.

I understand, and share, your concerns about actually getting the 1st rounders signed to a real contract. The Cardinals track record on this is down right abysmal.

We will have to have a certain measure of faith that this is the year that we "get off the schnide" as a franchise, and make the NFL take notice that this is a place where you would want to play.

But then again,

I may be a Chinese jet pilot!:D

If you watch "Jerry McGuire" close enough, you can see it in the Cardinals locker room. It's right next to the "A Positive Something Is Better Than A Negative Nothing" sign...

The big problem with the 'plan' thus far is, especially after we foolishly let Boston walk compensation-free, the three BIGGEST areas of need were, in this order IMO, pass rush, QB, WR. We got the QB. We completely and utterly failed on the other two, with the assumption you can't automatically rely on rookies. If any of our rookie WRs or DEs pan out, then great, but it is foolish to simply pray this happens. I'm rather pessimistic right now, but I won't simply naysay them. I'll wait and see.
