I'll take anybody.. Id prefer Odom because he helps the pass-rush situation a whole lot better.. But Chillar wouldn't exactly hurt us. He's young, hes very athletic, and is gonna come a hell of a lot cheaper than any FA LB whos had this type of productivity.

HE is the epitomy of average to below average. I would wait and talk to odom before i would even think about signing this guy.

Whos our current WLB? Okeafor?

Heard he was doing good in camp last year.. But id rather have Chillar than him. Signing him means we've got more flexibility in the draft. Odom is going to ask for a pretty penny.. He's a very good player whos still got a lot of upside. Id be shocked if we signed him.

Chillar very athletic? I'll give you young (26 in Oct), but the guy isnt fast, doesn't have great explosion, and really isnt much of a pass rusher.....

I agree....Odom may cost more, but he'd help out the defense a lot more as well

Guys, Brandon Chillar is 6'3 and 242lbs. He is not an OLB in the 3-4. Unless he beats out Dansby or Hayes he is going to be a back up ILB.

True enough. I think he'll give Gerald Hayes some competition, but it'll be between him an Monty Beisel come training camp.

Chillar would be a solid depth/competition signing.

Odom and Chillar are the first 2 FA's brought in. That tells me,no matter what Graves says, Pace is as good as gone.

It's hard to determine whether the Cards have legitimate interest in either Odom or Chillar - or whether they're trying to establish the market-value (and possibly make an offer) to Calvin Pace.

Certainly Odom, at the very least, would represent "insurance" should Calvin sign with the Jets, Dolphs or anyone else.

Note - I'm not so sure how cap rich the Jets still are, but there's a rumor here that they're not finished rebuilding their O-line (They're near-perfect on the right side with Brick, Faneca and Mangold, but seek to bolster their right side). Makes you wonder if they can afford Calvin or Odom).

that would be incorrect....he could play OLB in a 3-4 without a problem....there are plenty of 3-4 teams that employ OLBs around 250 LBs

they're not gonna bring him in on the 4th day of FA to compete at MLB with 3 guys that we already have there....

not every OLB is like Pace or Merriman in terms of size

Chillar without a doubt is being looked as as depth or as a role player. When we go into our 4-3 looks he can be brought in as a OLB. He can be brought in as depth as a 3-4 ILB. Special teams. Maybe even a few extra pounds with Lott to be a backup 3-4 OLB, although he doesnt have the pass rush ability for it. This does not however mean its a Chillar or Odom thing. Both guys have completely different skill sets and would fill completely different roles on the team.

We've dropped Blackstock and Johnson... and Pace may not be back. Sign both. Can't have enough depth whether it's 3-4 - 4-3 or whatever hybrid we put out there.

Hearing that Odom and Chillar are coming to visit make me think we are more of a 4-3 team than a 3-4 team. If that is the case they would provide great depth. Neither of these guys really fits a 3-4 defense in my mind.

Our base D is still the 4-3..

But Odoms pass-rush would definitely come in more handy on 3rd downs.. Probably just as a blitzing OLB. 6'5 275.. I think thats perfect for that role.

I'm not sure where this idea that he's just a pass rushing LB comes from. He's played his entire career as a defensive end, with the big majority of his starts coming at LDE, which is usually considered more of a run stuffer role than pass rusher.

If we sign Odom, it'll be to START at DE.

Maybe he is an OLB in a 3-4:

Per ESPN INSIDER

Expert's Take Chillar has excellent size and above-average straight-line speed. He has a good feel for the game and some versatility. He takes good angles and is quick to key and diagnose. He can jam a tight end off the line and trail him downfield. He can play all three linebacker spots, but he isn't athletic enough to excel at one. He's a downhill player who isn't as effective moving laterally or dropping into coverage. He struggles to transition and close on the ball in off coverage and zone. He's very inconsistent using his hands to take on and shed blockers. He struggles working across a blocker's face or squeezing the play down. Chillar probably would be a better fit at outside linebacker in a 3-4 than he is in the Rams' scheme.
