He's got a tough job. Not many 6th round selections work out long term or contribute a whole lot to the Cardinals.

Reggie Wells and Mel Gray (1971) are about the only ones. 2 guys in 50 years!

Jay Novacek was a 6th round pick but he worked out well for Dallas not the Cards.

DJ- reality comes soon enough

why ruin the golden nectar that is pure optimism and potential?

just like that $1 lottery ticket could be worth $20 million, Mr Davis could be a future hall of famer.

True but Davis played out of position last year. He had to play DT due to almost all of the Illini DT where either hurt, on probation due to grades or where red shirted. Look at his JR stats and that will tell a little bit about him.
In his JR year he played DE and SOLB. He is a sleeper pick who just might make it.

I read somewhere he was rated a solid 2nd. rounder after his junior year, but his production fell off this past year, hence the major drop in draft position. If he played out of position, seems you could almost scratch last year and hope for the junior Will Davis......

History definitely isn't on his side.

I'm waiting for the day when most of our draft picks can't make the team because of better players ahead of them. Then you know we are a solid team.

4 more to go right? I may have to start [gulp] complimenting the FO if they get Boldin and/or Dansby done and all our picks done in time...

Will Davis could be something special, you never know.. he took to the change in positions with no complaints, even though he knew it would hurt his draftability, and the Cards still noticed him...

Common thread among all our picks this year is that each one of them have something to prove (and in most cases showing the ability to overcome adversity).

Beanie's durability.

Cody Brown's level of competition at UConn (Admittedly lame - he had the most "normal" background of any of our picks).

R Johnson was an Alabama walk-on

Toler - from drop-out to St. Pauls to the NFL.

H Johnson's weight

Will Davis having to learn a new position

Stephens-Howling's demotion at Pitt and tearful press conference with the Cards

Canfield dropping to the 7th round

Plus some of our UDFA's (like Garvin) who were too small or too inexperienced or too slow.

I think "having to prove something" will be the hallmark of this draft class and quite possibly the singlemost overall defining characteristic of this football team during Wiz's tenure.

Toler should be a relatively easy sign as well right (base minimums for three years and a marginal signing bonus right)? The top three might be ones that might take some time....

They all should be relatively simple. These picks are pretty much all slotted.

2nd-7th rounders are easy to sign, unless you're Johnny McWilliams. It's the Wells signing I'm afraid of. He's missed almost all practices due to school and he can ill afford to miss any time in trainingcamp. If Graves can break his streak of getting 1st rounders in late, that would be swell. Wishful thinking....

I think we're there now. Most of the draft picks can make the team only because the Cards can't fit all of their veteran players under the salary cap.

Did you ever think you'd live long enough to see the day when few if any rookies could break into the starting lineup for Arizona?

I agree. Year before last, Whis cut Buster Davis. Last season, Harrington didn't pan out.

At least one of these rookies will not make it. My guess it's Canfield.

TJ, I really think Canfield will make it as a mean ol' SOB.. I think Stephens-Howling will have a hard time making it with Garvin in the fold.. jmo.

I agree. Canfield makes the team. Stephens-Howling to the PS for now, and could be the third down back in a couple of years.

Really, how many OL are we going to carry then? You gotta figure that last year's starting five are locks and Keith, Vallejo and Elton Brown are locks or very close to locks (Brown is the only 'iffy' one in my mind). That makes eight and even if Big Herm replaces Elton Brown, you still have eight but no true backup center. I know Canfield has at least taken snaps in practice at center but so has Wells and E Brown. Is Canfield going to be your ninth guy or would you rather have a true backup center?

I think Canfield will be tried at center, but I have a feeling that Elton Brown might be traded before final cuts. He's only on a one year deal and the Cardinals favor Vallejo at tackle and Keith at guard and tackle, which is why Canfield and Ben Claxton make the roster.

Why would a team trade for Brown when they could have signed him for the veteran minimum just a couple of months ago? Seems odd to me that a team would give up a draft pick or whatever just because he had a good preseason or whatever.

If he's not on the roster come opening day, I'd put my money on him being cut instead of traded but that's just me.

Agree. My feeling, however, is that, as one of few veteran backups, he makes the final roster. As for Canfield, unless he shows that he, in fact, can play centre at this level, he's PS bound.
