I stand corrected...Kingsbury is a very interesting target.

The case for KK
  • Could be the next McVay
  • Development of QB's has been off the charts (no comparison)
  • Fun offense to watch and will score a lot of points
  • Even if Rosen isn't the QBOF, no doubt this guy could identify/develop one quickly
The case against KK
  • Probably better suited for an NFL OC at this point in career
  • We can't bring him in as OC because after 1 year of success, he would be the next McVay for another team
  • Is his offense transferable to NFL or will it flame out like Chip Kelly?
  • Lack of success as college HC...what has changed?
Either way - we would have to hire a very solid DC (previous HC would be perfect) and other very experienced coaches.

It's a gamble but a very interesting one.

College football geniuses like Saban, Spurrier, Petrino, Chip Kelly couldn't handle the NFL and we expect some guy who just got fired from TT to be our savior. Give me a break. After the Wilks fiasco, we need to get someone with experience. Going after these guys who just got fired is beyond frustrating. They might as well give Wilks another interview.

I think Saban would have been successful in the NFL...he just looked around and figured out he could be a hard ass easier in college than pros...

Chip could/would be successful, too, if he'd concede to adjust his offense a bit, instead of insisting the system works.

Spurrier definitely didn't realize the commitment needed at the NFL coaching level and wanted to go back to college, to lighten his schedule.

Petrino was a complete disaster...

Kingsbury should only be brought in as a a QB coach, or at most, an OC. He only had 2 winning seasons at TT... there's no reason he should be considered for an NFL HC... especially since he has 0 experience at the professional level.

Yeah Saban went 9-7 with Miami one year starting Gus Frerotte and Joey Harrington. He would’ve been fine had they not been scared off by Brees’ shoulder. It’s crazy has one decision changed the landscape of college football history.

How about Kingsbury HC, Koetter OC and Bowles DC? The big question with that is could Koetter implement the type of offense Kingsbury might have in mind?

The more I think about it the more I'm enamored with the idea of Kingsbury if we get a proven DC. His downfall at Texas Tech was defense, if we can fix that and let him focus on the offense, we could be in for something special. And he doesn't have to worry about losing recruits to the SEC.

Koetter orchestrated the Boise State high octane offense, before Peterson took over, when Dirk left for ASU.

You don't need Koetter with Kingsbury.

I disagree, he is a first year NFL coach (zero NFL coaching experience of any sort) he is going to need veteran coordinators.

Totally agree on needing experienced coaches, especially DC.

However, I don't think you hire 2 guys with different schemes on the same side of the ball. You hire Kingsbury, like McVay, Arians, Shannahan, etc to run the offense and call the plays.

Koetter will want his own offense to run and shouldn't have a problem getting an OC or college HC job.

You hire a guy like Kingsbury because he sells you on the fact that he is self aware enough to know what he needs to surround himself with. That was McVay's appeal and why he hired Wade. He was self aware enough to know that he was going to call plays which would mean he wouldn't have a ton of time to oversee the defense. He also hired a guy who had experience as a HC.

Kingsbury knows or should know what he needs around him offensively. The question is, does he have a viable, experienced NFL DC option with him or is he going to need help in finding one?

We are going to have to reach either into the retread bucket bottom of the barrel or reach for an up and commer like Harry said, this guy is in group 2.

Who knows if he's any good or not but experience hasn't got all that much to do with it, smarts and emotional makeup does.
