Bleacher Report has indicated that the Cardinals & Jets will interview Kingsbury for their vacant Head Coach openings.

I know that some on this board like this guy, even though he wasn’t very good during his time as HC @ Texas Tech.

Interesting, but too much 'what if' after the Wilks disaster and another failed attempt would destroy our young QB and other draft picks. Success for me would be getting a coach who has pro experience and can rebuild our structure which has been torn apart... then we can get some young guy to play with something already in place

I'd like him as an offensive coordinator moreso, but the new coach may have a better idea

He can be Head Coach Dan Campbell’s Passing game coordinator and Assistant HC.

What about Josh Heupel for OC? He finally broke that streak; doesn’t have anything left to prove in whatever JC Conference he plays in.

Houston Cougars
In August 2008, Kingsbury joined the University of Houston football staff in the position of quality control.[12] Kingsbury was drawn to Houston through his ties with Dana Holgorsen who had been the offensive coordinator at Texas Tech prior to Houston. Kingsbury received recognition for the performance of the Houston offense in 2009 with Case Keenum at the helm. Keenum finished his Houston career with multiple NCAA Division I passing records. With Holgerson departing to become the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State University, Kingsbury was promoted to the position of co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Cougars serving alongside former UH receiver Jason Phillips. Kingsbury quickly gained Coach Kevin Sumlin's trust and began calling all the offensive plays & was recognized as the 2011 Offensive Coordinator of the year after Houston led college football, averaging 50 points and nearly 600 yards of offense per game.[13]

Texas A&M Aggies
After a record breaking 2011 season in which Houston led the NCAA in yards, points, and virtually every offensive category, Kingsbury joined former Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin to be the offensive coordinator for Texas A&M for the 2012 season, coaching Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel.[14] The Aggies led the Southeastern Conference in rushing, passing, total and scoring offense, and were the nation’s only offense ranked in the top 15 of the NCAA statistics in all four categories.[15] For his performance, Kingsbury was named the 2012 Footballscoop.com Offensive Coordinator of the Year and was named a finalist for the Broyles Award.[16]

Quarterback tree
Prominent quarterbacks that played under Kliff Kingsbury:

Kingsbury and the Red Raiders capped off the season with a 37–23 upset over the #14 ranked Arizona State in the 2013 Holiday Bowl following an impressive performance by quarterback Davis Webb.

Like the careers of McVay and Nagy, Kingsbury has drawn ample respect for producing prolific offenses in challenging circumstances. That also explains why NFL teams are considering him despite amassing a less-than-flattering 35-40 record in six seasons at Texas Tech. Typically, those aren’t results that land people in NFL head coaching searches. But Kingsbury also has some key exclamation points on his résumé that matter in today’s NFL.

Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield as quarterback prospects, while also helping to develop Case Keenum, Johnny Manziel and Davis Webb into NFL players. Perhaps more important, the offenses Kingsbury developed were often layered and molded to the skills of his players, creating success with players who had varied strengths and weaknesses." data-reactid="33">Chief among them: In three seasons as a coordinator at the University of Houston and Texas A&M and six seasons as a head coach at Texas Tech, Kingsbury guided five offenses that finished in the top five in scoring in the nation. Inside that span, he was credited with identifying both Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield as quarterback prospects, while also helping to develop Case Keenum, Johnny Manziel and Davis Webb into NFL players. Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen, for example) for a 10-15 year run. That’s a template many teams are looking for, envisioning a dynamic along the lines of Sean Payton and Drew Brees, McVay and Jared Goff, Andy Reid and Mahomes or Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky. Not surprisingly, three of those head coaches — Payton, Reid and McVay — have all been admirers of some of Kingsbury’s offensive work in recent years. So much so that Kingsbury likely could have been added to any of those staffs in some capacity if he had expressed an interest." data-reactid="34">Having touched the careers of three high level NFL starters in 2018 — Mahomes, Mayfield and Keenum — was already enough to get the attention of league evaluators. But Kingsbury also has the added bonus of being 39 years old, which creates an opportunity to pair an inventive offensive mind with a young NFL quarterback (like a Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen, for example) for a 10-15 year run. 35-40 at the college level (Texas Tech)?

Pass.

Texas Tech is a really hard program to win at which is why you see all these innovative minds coach there. They have to be very creative just to compete in any game they play.

Who grows up in Texas dreaming of playing at Texas Tech, when the Longhorns, Aggies, and to a lesser extent Houston all play in that state?

He had a hand in developing QBs such as Keemun, Manziel, and most recent Mahomes. All three were 3-star or fewer prospects coming out of high school.

His brand of offsense would work in the pros. Yeah, his college resume isn’t impressive, but he has a place in the pros.

He’s young and smart, which would mesh well with Rosen

This would be a really good move as long as we put a complementary staff around him.
