That's better than the whole season. Let's hope this is just a fluke.

FWIW, it looks like it was tendons in his right wrist in 2004.

This is good news. He should be able to get some work in and be ready for game 3 of the tune ups.

I'm sure that he is a decent player, but what exactly are you making this opinino that Kenny King is a stud when he has hardly played for the past two years?

Actually, it was Denny Green. Before KK got hurt the first time Green commented he was the best defensive lineman we had. And remember it was Berry's first
camp with us.

The same Denny Green who proclaimed He Who Shall Not Be Named the next Brett Favre?

Sorry, couldn't resist....

Tough luck for King but it's time to get someone to replace him. Two years without seeing the field is long enough.

it's all in the expactations, if they guy was hearalded out of college he would be a bust, but since he was a no one and had a good preseason game he is a stud with potential. It's fan think, happens everywhere.

Another example, Bryant Johnson and Martay Jenkins, in reality Johnson is 1000 times better but to some fans Martay Jenkins was 1000 times better due to beating low expectations, some guys are just fan favorites and people tend to see throug their faults, some guys are whipping boys and can't seem to catch a break.

Not only that, he was pretty decent in his rookie year. That was before Clancy took over the lab. Who knows what he can do in this defense. You'd think that this system would fit him perfectly. It's just the injuries that have been holding him back.

Well King was actually the most heralded of a very heralded DL recruiting class at Alabama. The problem was... get this... he couldn't stay healthy in college. He played in every game twice, frosh and junior year, the other 2 years he missed multiple games with shoulder and neck problems. King was a very heralded recruit he was a bigtime weight lifter and track athlete(shot put) in HS. The problem with King is people look at him and think all he has to do is gain 20 pounds and watch out, this guy is not one of those people that can easily put 20 pounds on he just doesn't have that body type.

He was a tweener, not big enough for NFL DT, not fast enough for NFL DE, that's pretty much been the scouting report on him for years. In our defense we thought we found ways to utilize his speed and burst at DT, but the problem is he's just not big enough.

I have no idea where the wrist and hand injury problem comes from he didn't have that in college but in college he had the classic injuries of a guy playing a position he's too small for.

King is fast and has an explosive first step. If he can stay healthy he will definatley contribute in rotation.

You might consider this if he was a starter, but there's no reason to give up on him because the risk/reward ratio tilts too much in his favor (i.e. If he can come back and still play, he can help us a lot. But if he were to get injured, you'd have to replace him anyway - most likely with someone with marginal talent). So why jump the gun and decide to drop him prematurely? Give the odds a chance to work in our favor.

King relieved to have just a broken hand

Kent Somers
The Arizona Republic
Aug. 5, 2006 12:00 AM

FLAGSTAFF - Defensive lineman Kenny King fractured a bone in his right hand in practice Thursday, and considering the circumstances, he's happy about it.

That's because the injury has nothing to do with his right wrist. Injuries to the wrist have caused King to miss the past two years, and it was originally feared he had suffered a similar injury.

But his wrist is fine and the fractured hand will not require surgery. King will be out four to six weeks.

"It's definitely a relief," said King, who has the hand in a cast.

He suffered the injury when his hand hit a helmet. "It was one of those freak things," he said.

Right offensive tackle Oliver Ross, who suffered an injury to his right knee Tuesday, is seeking a second opinion before deciding on a course of action, coach Dennis Green said. It's believed Ross suffered a torn meniscus that will require surgery to repair.

Let's pretend
The Cardinals will hold a "mock" game today at their new stadium in Glendale in order to test everything from getting in and out of the huddle to the public address system. The event is closed to the public and media.

"Over half of the players who will play in the preseason game (Aug. 12 against Pittsburgh) have never played in pro football before, and this is a good time to get the jitters out," Green said.

It's also a chance to get the players accustomed to the logistics, from parking to finding their way around the stadium.

King hasn't played in two years and now will likely miss most of training camp.

How long can a guy be out and still be an effective player in the NFL?

Depends on who are and maybe what position you play. If your name is Kyle Vanden Bosch its at least 2 years. But if your name is Drew Henson its maybe a little less.

Well that would be true except that KVB never missed two consecutive full seasons.

Like the Drew Henson reference though.

I think we should give King a break. Not only did we draft Jonathan Lewis and Gabe Watson, but you can never have to many DT's. Plus on the bright side his pay is not really that high.

I place Hodgins in a totally different class though. Even though pay is not that much different, he was a bad fullback his only year he was healthy. In addition the cards typical fullback needs to do it all and Hodgins does not really bring that type of skill set to this team.
