I don't care how 'good' his 1/2 of a season was last year, because 1/2 of a season doesn't make a career. Also, think about how bad that made the other 1/2 of a season. I read that he gave up 11.5 sacks. Just think about that, then think if you really, actually want him back. Sure, I'd take him back...for 2 mill a year as a backup.

I keep saying, "Pick a lane" while reading this thread.

I cannot fathom how so many who could not stand Levi Brown as our LT, are now saying he will make or break this team.

The farthest I have made it with Levi Brown and his importance is that it would be nice to have Brown on the team, but I would be looking for his replacement. He would be a band-aid, not a solution.

If some other team wants to pay him top LT starting money, then fine, let him go. 8 average games is not going to suddenly change my perspective on Brown and his ability.

IMO, we are worrying about losing the LeVar Woods of OT.

The best arguement I have seen comes from CardsMD. He thinks the free agent pool at OT is way worse than Levi Brown, thus it makes sense he would want Brown to stay, being the best option.

I think there are upgrades available at LT, so Brown either signs a middle of the road contract, or leaves, and I am fine with that.

Watching our QB get slaughtered because of Levi Brown's poor play, or some other free agent's poor play still results with the QB on the ground.

I guess I have come around to the thought that durability and average play are worth something, and when it comes to the OT position, it comes out to aobut 7-8 million per year. Would I love to upgrade at OT? Absolutely. Am I willing to pay Levi Brown the 8 or 9 million per year that the market could pssibly be? No. But I hate being in this same situation where we have a cut a starting player on our team at a position of weakness because we mismanaged another contract.

Levi Brown is not the answer to our offensive line problems by any stretch, but we have so many holes to fill, and I hate to continually plug them with over-drafted rookies.

You say that average play are worth something, yet what you describe in this post isn't average play. He is far below average, IMO, and not worth it.

Yes, there is room to upgrade over Levi Brown, but no bodies to sign that look to do so. Sure we can take a risk on one of the injury prone options like Bell, McNeil or Clifton, but if you pay them 5 million and they can't finish the season, then you are screwed. At this point I would rather pay Brown 7 million and have a guy who has shown as history of being able to play an entire season.

I think the 2010 season shook all of the band wagon fans off the wagon, and the beginning of last season kept them off.

I have been waiting to see when the fans will revolt for years.....they never do.
wasn't last year the closest we ever came to a blackout in the new stadium?

I'd rather take the risk of somebody good getting injured than pay somebody awful just because he doesn't. I think it's worth the risk to get rid of the worst starting OT in the NFL. What's the worst that can happen? We end up with the worst OT in the NFL again. It's a risk I'd be willing to take. Especially if it saves us millions

Spending 5-6 million on a guy who, based on recent history, will have you starting Jeremy Bridges half the season is not saving us millions, it is wasting it.

still makes better sense than paying a bull fighter $8M/yr. Not missing games is irrelevant when you miss every block. I'd rather try someone else

Hyperbole notwithstanding, Levi didn't seem to miss all that many blocks once he had a QB back there that didn't routinely destroy the pocket. Also, there is such a thing as a running game even in Arizona and he is a pretty solid run blocker. I'd prefer an upgrade but until we have one in house I think it's incredibly risky to let even a below average LT walk.

Yeah. Blackouts ? The Cardinals laugh at blackouts.

This organization would have to go full SDS to garner attention.

That's the thing. If Levi Brown's gone, then you're stuck with whomever you sign or the draft pick you use to replace him. If Levi Brown's here, you're not forced to use a high pick, and you can always cut ties or demote Levi Brown after a year.

It's crazy to me that people think that nothing is better than having Levi Brown on the roster. Or D'Anthony Baptiste for 6 or 10 games is better than having Levi Brown on the roster.

Personally I'd rather see Bridges starting at LT than Levi Brown regardless of the money involved.

Three first round draft picks at LT for 9 of the last 12 years and people wanted to run every one of them out of town. Stop wasting top picks and big money on offensive linemen and go with journeymen.

Many of the same posters who use the source that Levi is the worst starting LT in the league now ignore that same source that he had a positive grade for the last half of the season.

Levi has a history of starting slow and then playing well as the season progresses. This indicates it isn't a contract thing but something else.

IMWO if one is okay paying Levi 6 to 7 mil a year but not wanting to spend 8 or 9 doesn't make sense.

I would suggest that every team has a player or 4 that they overpay for on the squad. The Cards have at this time have Bradley, Heap and Kolb. All three of them could still prove to be worth their contracts.

It would be prudent to enter the draft without a glaring screaming need at both OT positions. Siging an injury prone FA OT is less of a plan than re-signing Levi.

I'd spend 2 million a season on him, tops. As a backup.

Take emotion out of it. A starting RT under the age of 30 is worth at least 4 million.

this I'd be fine with. but that's not what he's going to want or get and whoever pays him more will regret it.

Well, yo uhave to factor in other items as well. He has shown to be a serviceable RT, has experience at LT giving roster flexability, and he is very durable.

In the end, Levi Brown is worth 6 million, I would pay 7 million, and he will probably get between 8 and 9 million.

he's average at best at RT and is AWFUL at LT. simply because a guy can stay healthy doesn't mean he's flexible. he's simply not an option at LT as far as i'm concerned.

In the end, Levi Brown is worth 6 million, I would pay 7 million, and he will probably get between 8 and 9 million.

anyone giving him 7, 8 or 9 million is going to rue the day.

so his value is $8-9M? But you would pay $7M? So you would let him walk too then?

I actually don't think that he can take that kind of money from us. If he ends up getting it (who knows what the market is going to be like under a flat cap), he'll take it from someone other than us.

There's no way that he takes a paycut from $18 million (scheduled) to $4 million and returns to this locker room.

Same thing happened with Braylon Edwards in New York.

then his ass can walk. 8 good games... in a contract year... out of 75 doesn't mean jack squat to me.

he would if the team NEVER did anything in the draft or FA to try and get a LT... which they didn't.

.... because they were not as unhappy as you with what they had, and have tried to re-sign him.
