PS smart move you either get him at the price you want or you get a first rounder.

Disagree. He is a young playmaker that will be difficult to replace. Also, you might lose him at a price you would pay but one that you can't match because of it's structure. See. Steve Hutchinson.

To further expound on this, Pittsburgh has a shaky o-line that is causing it's QB to be pummelled. They have a RB coming off a knee injury. They let their vet WR go. They lack a respectable TE. Their defense is old, and expensive. Losing Wallace is a huge deal.

and, according to his agent, Farrior is the next out the door.

"ONLY" move available to Pitt.

How "smart" it is?

We will know when Big Ben looks downfield and he's not there.

Well you have 3 choices.

Sign him, franchise him or tender him.

He wants a ton of dough to sign, if you dont want to pay that you can franchise or tender.

If you franchise, you may have same problem next year. Tendering him means you either pay market value for him or you get a first rounder.

Smart move.

Rather that as a GM than be forced into a high wage or let him go for nothing.

Smart has nothing to do with it. They are way over the CAP.

Tendering is the "only" move they have.

I dont doubt Mike Wallace's ability to succeed here, but anyone who thinks there are not better options in terms of cost among the many other talented free agents that we can sign out right and not have to surrender the 13th pick (where there will be a lot of "need" on the board for us) is insane.

Now Pitt has dumped DE Aaron Smith. We need an extra experienced backup in that role. Who is in favour?

He slips into this 'D' seamlessly.

If the Cards are going to spend big money on a receiver wouldnt you rather they went for Vincent Jackson and kept their own pick?

You make an excellent point. There are lots of good receivers available in free agency this year. No need to lose our first round pick. We sure need it.

Did anyone actually suggest we use our first pick on Wallace?

No, he is literally done. Hines Ward has way more left in the tank, and he doesn't have much at that. My bet is that he retires.

I would not mind bringing Farrior in. He can still play.

Yes, I agree. Farrior would have stayed, but for the cap implications.

If we signed Wallace we be required to give up our first round pick, the Steelers put a tender on him...

There are plenty of talented receivers in free agency this season who do not have a 1st round tender attached.

The Niners and Pats would be insane not to go after this dude. I'd love him on the Cards but $ + #13 is too much for us in our situation right now.

Lets go Patriots!

Thatd suck if 49ers got Wallace and the Rams are gonna get a ransom for that #2 pick.

NFC West is movin on up! :(

Cards front office better get off their asses and make moves, otherwise we'll be left in the dust.

I would not be totally surprised if someone from within the Steelers division made an offer to Wallace. It could be made in such a mannerthat the Steelers could be put in cap trouble for a long time as long as it is not too good.

Here's an idea for picking up Mike Wallace. Trade down from the 13 spot say three times down to pick 32. Get us a #2 and a couple of number 3's and then sign Wallace. Giving Pittsburgh the #32 pick for the top wideout in free agency. We get Wallace and three high draft picks.

You have to use your original 1st rounder as compensation if you tender a RFA.
