No, actually he can't. That is the reality you need to face. He is what he is and we will not beat a good team with him at QB. How do you know Max Hall's upside is no better than Anderson's? As for his downside being worse I don't believe that is possible.

This.

because rookie Qbs, not matter how talented, far, far, far more often than not -- struggle badly.

So you get the equivalent of the bad play of Derek Anderson, but without the quarter of good play that has resulted in wins.

In two wins, Anderson has thrown 3 tds and 1 int. So -- for his crappy completion percentage, the team has a chance to win.

Rookie QBs throw interceptions, and that really reduces the team's chance to win.

I am open to be dissuaded: name the last undrafted rookie qb that led his team to a winning record. Has it ever happened?

for this year -- Max Hall's upside is no better than what Anderson can do for the team, and his downside is much

As a fan, a realistic hope for DA is that with a combination of putting in the throws he is comfortable with, better familiarity with the offense, better timing with WRs, and better offensive line play -- he can get up to 58% completion and run a competent but not spectacular offense.

Well said. Everyone has their "whatever" to urinate and moan about the current situation and we all have the right to hit our mental control alt delete button and not read it...sadly IMO it is dull, boring and very tired...i rarely if ever read the stuff. as stated there ain't any live bodies around to take us to the promised land..hall won't know what hit him when he sticks his head out of the foxhole. Guarantee we will see a slug of comments about bringing in Edwards etc....carry on! Oh, and whomever mentioned anderson and cutler in the same breathe...gimme' a shot of that stuff.

It's true, and while Hall seems to be exceptionally smart he did throw picks in college and of course his 2nd pass was a pick.

It's a tough decision because there are clearly plays that DA is leaving on the field every game, throws that Hall can make(touch throws, accuracy throws), plays that Hall sees that DA doesn't. But we don't know how many mistakes we'd get from Hall, are those extra plays we get going to offset the extra INT's or fumbles we might see while he does the inevitable learning to play QB in the NFL that a rookie does.

I think the Cards would prefer to wait on Hall but I think they also see they're lucky they're not 0-3, the division is wide open, and even 5% better QB play would be a godsend.

That's why Whiz gets the big bucks to make decisions like this.

Jim Kelley was a high 1st round draft choice

and yes - he also got to play against some NFL caliber talent in the USFL for two years under a future NFL coordinator in Mouse Davis. They ended up running a very similar offense (the K-Gun) in Buffalo.

let me be clear: I think Hall has much more upside longer term than Anderson. The minute the Cardinals are eliminated from the playoffs is the minute I put Hall in as a starter.

I just think expecting Hall to play QB at an NFL average level (defined as a QB rating of 85 or so) this year is wildly unrealistic.

I would rather have a rookie making rookie mistakes than a five year veteran making rookie mistakes. A little easier to accept.

We are 2-1. What if the coach changes QB's and we lose? He would look like an idiot. Until our QB loses it makes no difference how bad he plays as long as we win.

The Bears were supposed to be terrible this year with used QB. Now they are 3.0 with a former bad QB.

Kinda late for that, isn't it?

Exactly this. The fact that there is a legit discussion about whether Hall's negatives outweigh Andersons positives is a MUCH larger comment on DA than Hall.

I don't want to see us throwing a rookie QB out there anymore than most, but I also don't want to see our current QB out there making rookie mistakes. If Whis goes with Hall, its because DA's positives aren't strong enough to win games against good teams.

DA isn't going to play at that either. He's currently rolling out a 67.6 rating. The problem is, he's definitely leaving a 90+ rating out on the field. The stats are there to be had, and he's missing them and missing badly.

At the end of the day, it will come down to whether Whis thinks Hall will commit fewer small mistakes than DA, and enough of them to overcome the higher rate of "big" mistakes.

To me it's simple, I believe problems that Hall will inevitably have are things he'll learn and improve at. He will never have Anderson's arm, but Anderson will never be an accurate QB, at least not here in this system with this OL and this group of WR's.

Hall will get better, Anderson won't. The question is how much will Max struggle before he starts to get better and are the players sufficiently fed up with DA that they're willing to take a step back and let Max learn?

We know what we have with Anderson. We know we are very fortunate we aren't 0-3. Our coach has said Hall played the best in preseason. Anderson will never be our future so I would rather find out what we have with Hall. I can wait till after the bye week but it has to happen. When the losses start to pile up this will take care of itself in my opinion. Anderson had 2 int in the loss and I was at the Ram game where a couple of more were dropped. I will give you this though, he throws the ball so poorly it is hard to pick off.

Max is an undrafted free agent rookie QB. His downside is much worse. I will say his upside is about the same as DA's this year which is really low. This Max Hall thing is getting pretty ridiculous. If he wasn't a local kid I doubt he'd be getting half as much praise.

And there isn't any internal discussion on Hall vs DA. Whiz is riding DA until he thinks Hall is ready which won't be for awhile if ever.

When the 2nd string QB reaches hero status it just means the starter sucks.

I would rather see Hall just because I'm curious to see what he does, it has entertainment value.

DA's entertainment value to this Cardinals fan is negative, so that pretty much sums up why I'd rather see Hall than DA, it's not based on who's really better and I freely admit that.

It's very hard to see an undrafted free agent take the field when your team is in any kind of contention, it's just not likely to happen and if it does, DA is either hurt or just terrible, either way it's bad.

How is that possible? I'm sorry, but unless Hall is going to line up facing the opposite direction every play there's no way his downside is "much worse". Chances are, he's not the answer but there just isn't enough room between DA's level of performance and rock bottom to justify your appraisal, IMO.

I also disagree with the "local" aspect. I think we want Hall in there because DA is horrible and Hall might not be. It's as simple as that. There just isn't that much citywide/countywide/statewide interest in any one high school to warrant such a strong push based primarily on local connections. This is not Jake Plummer revisited.

Our coach and several others have touted the kid so we're sitting here hoping that he is the one in a hundred (one in a thousand, one in a million, whatever) that can actually make the transition from overlooked college player to rookie success story. The odds are quite long but so are many of DA's passes.

Cutler is very much like DA. DA sad to say doesn't play as well as Cutler.

Really? I mean really? Hey, Cutler is a headcase & makes some bad throws but I would take one Jay Cutler for every 50 Andersons. Comparing Cutler to DA is the joke of the century!!!

What is getting ridiculous is the continuing defense of Anderson. The coach thinks enough of Hall to cut Leinart and have him as the backup which puts him one big hit on DA away from starting. How do you know their isn't any discussion on Hall vs DA? I believe DA is on a short leash. It may not happen till after the bye but DA will be sitting this year.

If DA was on a short leash it would have been yanked already. His leash is super super long apparently.
