Jim Trotter tweet:

"where will Manning land? take this to the bank: Ariz is on his short list, and sea and mia are among those that'll do everything to be on it."

I have found that Trotter seems to be reliable, but take it for what it's worth.

Who else is on this "short list?" If it's just AZ as Trotter asserts, then it is no bigger than a fortune in a fortune cookie.

I would assume Miami is on that list, despite him saying they're wannabes. Seattle does not have a prayer IMO and the more I think about the Redskins, the more I think that's not even an option for him.

Pure speculation. But then again how long can a list be when there are only a dozen or so teams to choose from.

I'm no "insider" but this will come down to Arizona, Seattle and Miami. Arizona and Seattle offer best rosters and offensive flexability. Miami seems to be the most desperate, but I'm not sure of the fit with their new coach. If Miami wants a vet to pair with a rookie, look for them to target Kyle Orton or Matt Flynn and take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Been following Trotter from day one. He is not going to say "Take it to the bank" unless he knows something. Whether it happens or not still remains to be seen, but knowing Trotter it is not speculation IMO. Not the way he worded it.

Matt Flynn is a variable in this process. He's been rumored to go to both Miami and Seattle. Miami in particular seeing as his former OC is now their HC. They may feel comfortable with him.

I just can't believe that Peyton would want to go somewhere with a rookie head coach, with a franchise that has had ZERO success, where their biggest playmaker is basically a bi-polar WR versus coming to a team that still has a some key pieces from a Super Bowl team, the best WR in the game, good relationship with the HC and can play in a dome.

it just makes too much sense... which is why i fear it WON'T happen.

In reality if Manning has some interest then it is the Cardinals whom have to step up, act like a professional franchise, and reel the big fish in.

We are talking about the premeir QB in the league, and he has interest. If you don't jump on the opportunity then this organization who already has the label of cheap, and unwilling to do what it takes to be competitive (even if the small base of fans don't agree with this label), will never be able to shake the label.

Seriously. "We didn't pursue Peyton Manning because of __________" doesn't make sense if your are a NFL football team without a legit starting QB.

Yes, I said it. Double Deuce is not a legit starting QB.......................yet.

Manning's Short List = A list that Manning has drawn up. (There's no verified evidence that the Cardinals are on it).

Media's Short List = Speculaton, rumor and more speculation.

Fan Polls = How fans responding to polls feel (Duh!). An NFL Network poll after the presser indicated that 28% of respondees (2nd most) thought the Cards were "the best place for Peyton to land. (That and 5 cents will get you a cigar).

I understand that you're passionate about this, but I believe that the Miami Dolphins remain the winningest franchise in the history of the NFL. They won 11 games exactly four seasons ago. They went to the playoffs for five consecutive seasons from 1997 to 2001, and in the twelve years from 1990 to 2001 they went to the playoffs 9 times.

It's impossible to say with a straight face that the Arizona Cardinals of all teams has a richer tradition of success than the Miami Dolphins.

I too have found Trotter to be a solid reporter, not a speculative flame-thrower who hopes something sticks.

If I'm Peyton, one of the things I absolutely want to see is an upgraded wide-receiver corps. Don't forget for many, many years in Indy he did have two very good wide-outs in Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. At the very least, I'd think he would want an upgrade at the #2 WR position. The Cardinals are loaded at tight end. Upgrading the wide receiver position should excite him about the possibility of coming to the desert. And there is the nice winter climate to play golf. ;)

Recent history is all that matters. I am sure Peytons decision isn't going to come down to who won the '72 and '73 Super Bowl.

Sigh. The recent history when we went 5-11 and then 8-8? Or the Dolphins' recent history where they went 7-9 and then 6-10?

The recent history where Miami's offense was 1.1 points per game better than ours last year, or the one where our offense was ranked 31st in the NFL in 2010?

Maybe it's the recent history where Miami's defense gave up 2 fewer points per game than ours last year? Or maybe it's the recent history where Miami was 6th in overall defense in 2010 while we were 29th?

Let me know which of these recent stats Manning will consider when he looks at which franchise he should join up with.

Despite two lousy years, Whis and Kurt Warner did take the Cardinals to the playoffs and even to the Super Bowl. That ain't chopped liver.

OMG! You think those stats are going to influence Manning's decision? At all? Are you for real? If we had Peyton we sure wouldn't be 31st in offense. I'm guessing Peyton knows that.

1.1 PPG. LOL!

How about Miami's rookie head coach being their 7th head coach since 2004?

Sigh, the recent history where we went to the Super Bowl and 2nd round with Kurt. The recent history where we went 8-8 with John Freaking Skelton at the helm. The recent history where Larry Fitzgerald owns everyone's ass.
