Cardinals Announce Four Transactions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, March 26, 2004

Tempe, Arizona — The Arizona Cardinals have added a
free-agent (linebacker (Rodney Thomas), re-signed two returning
defensive backs (Jason Goss and Justin Lucas), and released a
fullback previously assigned to NFL Europe (J.P. Comella).

Thomas, who concluded his college football career at Clemson as
the no. 10 tackler in school history, attended training camp with
the Cincinnati Bengals last year and recently concluded an
abbreviated NFL Europe training camp regimen in Tampa, Florida.
During his college career at Clemson, the 6–0, 250-pound native
of Dublin, Ga. collected 321 tackles, including 167 stops as a
senior in 2002, the sixth-best single-season total in the Tigers’
record books. He added academic all-Atlantic Coast Conference
honors the same year.

Goss, a two-time all-conference selection at Texas Christian,
originally was claimed by Arizona via waivers from Chicago on
September 1, 2003, inactive for first two contests, then signed
to the practice squad September 17. He was signed to the 53-man
roster November 26 and played in the final four games, primarily
on special teams with one tackle, and two “blocks.”

In five seasons (1999–2003), Lucas owns 140 tackles and two
interceptions in 56 games (eight starts) and has scored two
touchdowns on interception returns. A free agent in 1999 from
Abilene Christian, Lucas played primarily on special teams as a
rookie, saw extensive action from scrimmage in 2000, then started
four games at strong safety in both 2001 and 2002. Last year,
Lucas appeared in 11 games before an ankle injury relegated him
to the injured-reserve list. He collected 17 solo tackles, 6
assists, 1 tackle for loss, and 5 tackles and 30 blocks on
special teams.

Comella, who played college football at Boston College, signed
with the Cardinals on February 4 and was assigned to NFL Europe.
He recently was released from the league’s training camp in
Tampa, Fla.

I'd love to see Lucas revert to his form of two years ago.

Here, Here !!!

I think this is a good signing. I would classify Justin as one of the needed "belly" players. I think he is a good backup/role player. I don't sweat blood when he's on the field, like I did some of our even starting CB's.

Goss is an encouraging signing too. At least maybe now we are acquiring some "potential"...seems like we haven't even had much of that at CB lately.

I was a little critical of us even bothering to send comella to NFL Europe..I thought he was so bad that we should not bother with even tying up a spot for him in training camp...Guess he is gone now - with Rue, Hodgins, the new guy from Miami and bush as a part time fullback...we have plenty of players at this position...

I would speculate that he would not even be considered acceptable training camp fodder if it were not for the fact that his brother was a fullback in the NFL ....

Rodney Thomas sounds a lot like Gilbert (former 6th? round LB from Georgia). He ended up being signed to someone else's active roster if I remember right.

Agreed 2 years ago I thought he was better than Wilson because he made plays and wasn't out of position, didn't do much last year. Always a big hustle guy too I like the kid.

Last year he was injured and wasn't same when came back from his ankle injury. I like Lucas signing, he is a playmaker!

Agreed on Lucas. He is a good depth player that we needed to keep around. Disagree partially on Goss. He's a body at CB that doesn't really show much upside.
