Cardinals Release Kendall and Rogers
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, August 1, 2004

Flagstaff, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals today announced that the team has released veteran offensive linemen PETE KENDALL and KENDRICK ROGERS.

A veteran of eight NFL seasons, Kendall joined the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent in 2001. He started 23 games at left guard in his first two seasons with Arizona before moving to center last season and started the first 13 games of the year at that position. Kendall originally entered the league when he was selected by Seattle in the first round of the 1996 Draft out of Boston College. He appeared in 76 games (75 starts) with the Seahawks from 1996-2000 before signing with the Cardinals the following March.

An offensive tackle out of Alabama A&M, Rogers spent the 2002 season on the Cardinals practice squad and was on the 53-man roster for eight games in 2003 but did not see any action before a wrist injury led to his placement on the Injured Reserve list in November.

Kendall had to of not passed the physical.

That is the only reason he would have been cut.

Cap implications:

He signed a 5 year deal with a 5 mill signing bonus.

2 years left on his contract(this year and next year) = 2 mill more owed to him.

Released after june 1st so the 2 mill is seperated over this year and next year.

2004 - Base Salary(2.75 mill.) - part of signing bonus(1 mill.) = Cap savings(1,750,000)

2005 - Base Salary(2 mill) - rest of signing bonus(1 mill.) = Cap savings (1 mill.)

Who is going to step in and play for him? Are we going to start our 4th rounder as our starting left guard instead of him playing center?

I bet we move Shelton back to starting LT and Big moves to LG.

So I'm assuming the Viking guy we just picked up is the starting center? Man, maybe there was a power struggle there? Is Green trying to prove a point?

I hope Green knows what he's doing. I don't want Green to be to the Cardinals as George Seifert was to the Carolina Panthers.

wow, given there's no injury settlement mentioned, I'm assuming DG thinks Pete has lost it? Pretty strange move to me but we of course don't know everything involved.

Does this open any money to sign the hold-outs?

Hey Mac, the Big Red Line? Big Red Lie. Just like the Cactus Curtain and all the other mumbo jumbo we've been let down on.

Again, I hope Green hasn't lost his marbles.

For all we know, Kendall might have told Green to go screw himself and asked to be cut. We don't know.

Coming on the eve of training camp, this is a spectacularly surprising move. It will be very interesting to hear the reasoning behind this. At first blush, I think Green is on the warpath.

It would open up additional cap space in future years, but they can only spend so much on rookies this year, no matter who they cut.

WTF!!! Kendall was one of our best players on the OL!! Our line just got a hell of alot of worse folks. Dear god no...

We could of atleast traded him and got some value!

I don't understand releasing Kendall. I don't consider the O-line an area of strength and we just released what I thought was a very important part.

Releasing Kendall is a big surprise. Denny may have given a hint last week when he said Ohio State players are close to being ready for the pros when they first come out. I think Stepanovich will start.

This smacks of payback. Why couldn't we trade him for a draft pick or two?

I'll nose around tomorrow. Today, I'm going for a drink. Right now.

Still, that doen't mean you cut him.

You could still move him back to guard. I'd rather have him in there and have Wells or Spikes as a backup.
