I would love to think this is bolstering our depth but like many times b4 they will probably cut a current starter and kill that idea.

It would be ideal to have Faneca start @ LG and Wells move to RT. But I expect Well to be released. Hope I am wrong.

They signed McFadden and instead of having DRC, McFadden & Hood top 3 CB's we cut Hood.

I love the signing. We need to run the ball period! Wells IMO is the weak link at run blocking. I would like to try him @ RT.

Brown, Faneca, Hadnot, Lutui, Wells

I like it...

Sendlein is going to start. The staff loves him and thinks he is going to be a pro bowler. No way he sits

3. And most important, I have become extremely tired of the fact our offensive linemen have had NO competition for the last few years. I like that there is going to be an extremely high level of competition on the offensive line this year.
This.

Oline are like CB's. You can never have enough. Competition will bring out the best in the players. Nice to see us being proactive and bringing in a vet that has an attitude.

I see Brown and Keith as the tackles, if what we keep hearing about Keith is correct. Then the interior will be open for battle. Don't forget about Herman Johnson. I am sure he wants in on the battle.

Sendlein will start at Center. Lutui is unknown at this point and between Bridges, Johnson and Faneca and Duece's strange absence, he could be gone... And I would not at all be surprised to see Keith starting at RT.

Then how do you explain giving up more sacks in 08 then he did in 09 blocking for a Veteran Brett Favre, or the year before that in Ben?

That argument just doesn't float. Especially since he has never been any good at pass blocking going all the way back to his Pitt days under Grimm. Just not his deal, never has been and it never will. He is considering so good because he is a great run blocker and leader, nothing else, nothing more.

Ok. Point to you, I didn't know any of that. I was just throwing out an idea since I honestly didn't really pay attention to the Jets.

Meh, it's a 1 year deal...it really can't hurt (unless we cut Lutui--who has improved each year he has been here)

Lutui is an animal in the run game.

Well what do you know me and md agree on something.

Not only do i think Lutui is better against the run than he is at pass protection but i also think that Wells is better against the run then he is pass protection. That is the area the o-line needs to improve in and Faneca doesnt bring anything to the table in that department.

I am very leary of this. But there are two things I grealty like about this move.

1. He is the first OL leader this unit has had since Wiz and Grimm have been here.

2. The Cards saw something they wanted and proved again they will pounce on it. Faneca, Rhodes, 3 trades in the draft.

Trade Wells and get back our 7th rounder for 2011 that we sent away in a trade.

Jurecki was talking today about how the coaches were far happier with the Lutui-Brown side of the line last year than the left side. And, that in particular, Wells had a bad year in their opinion. He said the whispers were loud enough that Wells has shown up for the voluntary part of the offseason program for this first time in years.

Personally, i think it's a wonderful thing to see the Cards move so aggressively to get a 9-time Pro Bowler. 33 is not terribly old for an interior NFL lineman. He's the starting left guard, end of discussion. And, if anyone is let go or traded soon, it will be Wells and not Lutui. You can bank that.

"It's a great situation for me with a group of coaches I'm familiar with, especially to be back with Russ again," Faneca said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

"We're obviously familiar with him from our time together in Pittsburgh, but we've also seen a lot of tape of him from the last two years with the Jets," Whisenhunt said, "and he's still the same tough, physical player who does a good job pulling and getting to the next level."

A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin.

I'm pretty sure everyone told me this a month ago when they told me i was insane in my opinion that we didn't sign Lenon to start and that all he was was a ST signing, depth at best!

call me a cynic all you want. Personally, I prefer the term realist, but even if you don't, I'd rather by a cynic and pleasantly surprised by good than myopic and continually be slapped in the face by reality.

I think it is interesting that Hadnot is making more the Faneca.

He's not. The Jets still have to pay him 5.25 mil thats guaranteed in his original contract. So add the Cardinals 2.5 mil that a total of 7.75 mil. Dam thats alot of money.

Love the signing but want Lutui signed also. What a loaded camp that would be. Competition on the OL like we have never seen. Good job Cards.

Someone check before you answer but I believe Alan is getting a guaranteed 5.5 still from the jets and we just added whip creme on top is all.Check it out.His leadership can't hurt.

Ahhhhhh----- Once again 'reason' raises its ugly head in the face of panic and turmoil. How bad can it be that he wants to be here,-----we want him to be here, and the Jets are paying for it. Way to go Doug.:D

Jason LaKOOK on NFLN...

When talking about the Faneca signing, says he's positioned himself to be a "free agent" next year. Again, while a true statement, the implication is yet another player who can't wait to leave Arizona.:mulli: Puh-lease.... Man, I want to see us win. Not only for us...But to see the pained looks on these mouths' faces! I luv' the under-dog role! GO CARDS!! :D

reuben brown was

washed up
had no gas in the tank
had no tread on the tires
could no longer run block, etc etc

before the bears took him off the trash heap....anyone care to count how many pro bowls he was in with the bears????

I love this signing, absolutely love it. I mean, I'm all about giving PSAC players a shot, but Wells has never, ever been good against the run, and okay against the pass rush. Putting Wells next to Sendlein, who is not a great drive blocker, spells disaster for the interior run game. Pairing Sendlein with Faneca will do wonders for that run game, sacrificing some in pass pro however.

Just think about this run-blocking line: Brown, Faneca, Sendlein, Lutui (he comes back, I figure), and Keith. The weak spot, which is more like an average spot in the run game, is Sendlein. The unknown is Keith. Can you say run left?
