Just listened to him interview on the Bickley & Morotta radio show. He really came across very positive and happy to be with the Cards. Spoke very highly of BA and the time he was interim HC with the Colts. Seems like a real pro and hard worker.

Given the unorthodox way we line up hybrid $LB's, nickel corners etc. does the SS play a different role in the Cardinal defensive secondary compared to more traditional setups? How would this influence what we'd be looking for in a SS? And how would this apply to our picking up Bethea?

I have always liked Antoine Bethea. Even when we were playing the Niners last year, i was impressed with how hard and tough he was playing despite being on a hapless team. The way the Cardinals use their SS, Bethea could have a big year. His leadership in the secondary should be pivotal as well.

Yep. He's every bit as good as Rashad but a better tackler

Bethea excels in the box, whereas Rashad's forte was in deep coverage at FS (you're right Rashad's strength was not tackling). Bethea can play FS, but that's not really where he belongs. The Cardinals still need to sign or draft a legit FS. I thought Swearinger grew into the role better than I ever expected. I hope he's back. But, even then, adding a nickel FS would be wise.

Solid signing.

Not the fastest, but performs & will be a leader. Bethea is similar to Rashad Johnson but a better tackler

When he gets burned and they lose the game he can pep everybodys spirits up with his amazing leadership

At least he has some leadership skills unlike some off the other asshats this team has drafted early in the last 4-5 years

Just heard an interview with Carson Palmer this morning and he liked the signing. Said he played against Bethea for many seasons and likes him as a player and he'll bring the leadership of a veteran.

Jurecki's interview with Bethea today (halfway thru podcast). Sounds like a likeable guy. Passionate about football, family man. Played with BA and Betcher before. Familiar with similar systems in Indy and SF. Said he's big on communicating, says you can't push leadership.

I agree, BIM and CFL. Very likable, professional. Wants to assimilate naturally into the team until he feels he has earned leadership respect. He's a tough player. The main concern is whether he can pick up where TJ left off in coverage. If they play him at FS, he will struggle...that's not his cup of tea. He is a tough ass box safety.

you are questioning basically their time speed and ability to stay close to opponent in coverage, the age difference is big but talking about speed
bathea 40time 4'39"
Jefferson 4'70"
Swearinger 4"67
Tyvon Branch 4"31
