Cardinals Sign Free Agent Safety Terrence Holt
Thursday, March 8, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed free agent safety TERRENCE HOLT to a five-year contract. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Holt (6-2, 208) started 15 games last season for the Detroit Lions at free safety and collected a career high 76 tackles (51 solos), three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The younger brother of St. Louis Rams wide receiver Torry Holt, Terrence started 10 games in 2005, his first season as the fulltime starter at free safety, until an elbow injury forced him to injured reserve. In those ten starts Holt collected 44 tackles (34 solos), two interceptions and six passes defensed.

Originally a fifth-round selection by the Lions in the 2003 NFL Draft out of North Carolina State (137th overall), Holt has appeared in 53 games with 27 starts in his career collecting 170 tackles (117 solos), 12 passes defensed, eight interceptions, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. The 27-year old Gibsonville, North Carolina native is a former teammate of Cardinals Pro Bowl strong safety Adrian Wilson at N.C. State.

Well, at least that's something.

Give me OT, please. For the love of God...at least someone that can hold it down if we (most likely) don't get to draft Thomas.

That or a LB, because our LBs suck.

I guess since we spent money this is a success to some.

However, a mediocre player at best does not excite me.

I hope this helps calm this board down a little. Almost had to separate people.

Sweet!

I think this was a great signing for our system of defense.

Great depth in case Fransisco is a dude at FS, and when we run our 3 saftey nickel package he can be our coverage saftey!

I like the signing and it fills a need!

Now how about a OT and a CB.

:raccoon:

Very solid signing.

I like him better then KK.

Kudos Cards.

If you get Colombo and luck out on Joe Thomas, with the new staff, I think you improved yourself from last year.

Sign Hood.

Sign Gandy even, but Columbo preferred.

Is there a LB out there, it's me...D-Dogg.

Good signing. Some DET fans describe him as a slow CB that plays safety.

We need a LB or LT signing going into the draft and I will be happy.

Very few FA are exciting players but that is the market. so the question becomes, did this signing make the team better on Sundays?

I say it does...not from a major impact perspective but I do think it makes the team better. IMO, he is better than Griffith. I don't know how he measures up to Francisco however my feeling would be he is better than Francisco.

I agree that he's better than Kaesvaharn. So, I'm pleased with that.

I was hoping for Hood. Can we still sign him? It seems doubtful, but maybe we'll get creative with the little cap space we have left.

Instead of signing talent like Kevin K, the Cards give up and decide to ask the ugly girl to the prom to avoid rejection. yippie. :sarcasm: Well, hopefully this means Fransisco starts. Now if we bring back Tom Knight for CB help, and Sekou Sanyika for LB depth and this will be a successful offseason. :sarcasm:

Holt last two years: 117 tackles, 5 picks, 4 passes defended

KK last two years: 150 tackles, 9 picks, 6 passes defended

He will be starting FS, no doubt about it. Has nice size and should fit in well with our defensive plan. You can forget about taking Landry at #5.

Funny - some say he is better than KK, others worse...

But hey, we signed someone!

For 1 season....

I like this move. We get a player going into his prime and we are 2 deep at each S position.

SS - Wilson-Griffith

FS - Holt-Francisco

Griffith HAS TO BE moved to SS, where he is MUCH better suited to play. This also allows us to bring Griffith in as SS and move Wilson up into the box as an edge blitzing LB....

Now this is where signing Holt would be bad. If Peterson and Thomas (whom I don't want anyway) are gone, Landry, to me, would be the right choice and not drafting him because they signed Holt would be...well...stupid.

If Thomas and Peterson are gone at #5, the Cards would have to take one of the DEs or trade down and take Houston, the CB....

The 27-year old Gibsonville, North Carolina native is a former teammate of Cardinals Pro Bowl strong safety Adrian Wilson at N.C. State.

I was pulling into the parking lot a few minutes ago and saw A-Dub leaving the complex. Perhaps he put the safety blitz on his former college teammate.

It will be fun seeing Terrence Holt trying to rip the head off of his brother Torry Holt twice a year when the Cards do battle with the Rams.

Griffith is a free agent considering retirement. At this point Milligan is the backup SS.

Griffith is a FA, technically he's no longer a Cardinal, so I think it's:

SS- Wilson- Francisco/Milligan
FS- Holt- Francisco/Milligan
