Cardinals talking to Matt Ware

Cardinals talking to Ware

The Cardinals and the agent for safety Matt Ware are in negotiations, but it's questionable if a deal will before the start of free agency Thursday day.

Ware's agent, Audie Attar, said Ware loves Arizona and would prefer to remain a Cardinal. The team would like him back, too, because Ware played an integral role in their pass defense and on special teams.

Ware played in the team's nickel and dime packages, allowing strong safety Adrian Wilson the flexibility to move closer to scrimmage. When Ware suffered a knee injury in December, the Cardinals pass defense suffered, too.

If Ware signs, it would give the team a small bit of leverage in negotiations with Antrel Rolle because Ware conceivably could replace Rolle in the starting lineup. The problem for the Cardinals is there isn't much depth at the position. Rashad Johnson did not have a good rookie season, which puts more pressure on the Cardinals to re-sign Ware and Rolle.

Ware made $820,000 last season, including a $200,000 roster bonus.

In six NFL seasons Ware has 7 PDFs and 1 interception and he is going to be our replacement for Antrel Rolle? Well maybe he'll have a Warner like resurrection.

But that's the way it is in sports. If the guy is leaving he was a bum if he's staying he's a potential all-pro. The Raynoch Thompson syndrome if you will.

I wouldnt overstate the leverage

that being said -- Ware is one of those salt of the earth, depth guys that winning teams need. It would be good to bring him back

Hey, Ware was not an everydown playere like Rolle was. Are you aware that Rolle only had 1.5 sacks, 1 TD return, 1 forced fumble, and 4 int's. How many of his int's were because of his tight coverage, and how many were because the D-line, or linebacker deflected the ball into the air, and Rolle just happened to be where it came down. I know that at least two of them were deflected like that, maybe more.

using that logic i guess you think Barry Sanders was a horrible RB. I mean if you took away his 3-4 long runs a game ,his ypc was average at best.

You're not really going to try and make a cse for Ware being as good as Rolle are you? Do you think maybe there was a reason Ware wasn't an everydown player?

You are comparing apples to oranges with the Sanders thought.

Of course, I am not saying Ware is as good as Rolle, otherwise he would have been starting. What I am referring to is that DJ seems to think that Rolle's productivity far outweighed Wares, yet their two stat lines are very comparable, considering Ware was not an everydown player.

The stats you posted for Rolle were for one year. The numbers I put up for Ware are for his entire career! Six years.

You know, honestly, I don't get all this goo-goo-ga-ing over Matt Ware. Look at his stats, seriously. And he isn't one of the better STs players either.

Ware: 24 tackles, 1 FF, 1 INT, 1 pass defended.

Compare with Michael Adams': 40 tackles, 1 INT, 4 passes defensed...yes different positions, but still.

How many times did you say, wow that Matt Ware is really getting it done?

Come on Mitch, you're better than this.

When Adams was in the game opposing defenses would target him. More passes his way, more catches for the receivers he's covering, more tackles. Also, more chances to defense passes.
