I didn't realize that Ty Law is from Alliquipa also. That being the case Mike probably has known him and covered his career since Law was in high school. My guess is that Mike spoke directly to either Law or more likey Dorsett about the appearance cancellation.

So now we know there are only two degrees of separation between all of us and Ty Law. You need to make a phone call, buddy! :D

I hear you, I didn't wish to overstate the case. :)

But if Kent Somers or Darren Urban, reported the same as what Mike Bires did it wouldn't be getting the same type of ridicule in this thread.

I have no problem with the ridicule; just guys having fun. But I do know Mike and I just wanted to clarify the source of the report as legitimate.

What ever happened to Lee Chappel?

If we get Law, I'll start chugging Kool Aid. Hell, I'll do a Kool Aid-filled beer bong.

CB depth is one of the last question marks I have about this team that the organization hasn't addressed. Whether or not the changes implemented to the teams weak-points (OL, DL, QB depth, RB) work out or not, that's to be seen...but at least they've made what look to be good moves to shore up the holes.

Lee used to post on Cards Corner on AOL with us. He had a lot of good info.

I also wonder where he is now. Maybe so many years of covering the Cardinals can wear someone down. :)

That's why I jump when someone says the old standard crap about the Cardinals. The changes may or may not take the team to the ultimate goal, but they can no longer be accused of not making the effort.

Lee Shappell was an excellent Cardinal beat writer for the AZR - and friend to the regulars on the AOL Cards Corner site.

I believe he moved on to greener pastures a few years ago - I think it was Denver.

A couple of items of note concerning cap considerations:

The Cap amount left amounts that were posted - That site is notorious for having wrong cap figures. It is a good bench mark but not accurate. They also use the rule of 51 which doesnt give a real picture of real cap space. They also dont include rookie cap and other various items, they are also late to the table most times when it comes to none big name signings, for example Mark Brown and other vet min type players are most likely not yet included in their calculations.

As for Law cap implications -

1. We dont really have to have dead money when he does retire or go down. Any deal for him wont just be a signing bonus. Most likely it will be a modest signing bonus which then includes roster bonuses to give him the money he wants yet still protects us in case of injury or retirement.

Something such as a 5 year (still giving him the so called 10 Mill gaurnteed figure the media likes to throw around all the time) - 3 Mill signing bonus, 3 Mill. roster bonus in 2007, and a 2 mill roster bonus in 2008 and a 2 Mill roster bonus in 2009.

I am leaving for lunch so to be continued.

Have your fun guy's but Mike Bires has been a reporter covering sports in the Pittsburgh metro area for nearly 30 years. He covers the Pittsburgh pro scene as well as local sports. The Beaver County Times is a significant news daily in the Pittsburgh metro area...

Mike is at the very least as credible as any of the Phoenix metro reporters.

He could be a very credible source. I just don't like to entertain rumors that come way out of leftfield. Rarely do they prove true. Why would he come to AZ? Ring? We are a little ways from that just yet, so that leaves money. 10 mil bonus for a guy who has a couple of years left. Don't be fooled by the 10 ints, he is not an elite cover corner anymore. However, he is is an upgrade who gets by on his smart and would be an upgrade. So do you want to pay an above average player on the down swing of his career star money? If this is true I think it speaks more towards the concern over Rolle's knee than anything.

The other thing to consider. In a two team negotiation, the Cardinals are usually the team used to jack up the asking price of the player to the other team.

Are roster bonuses really garaunteed? If he isn't on the roster, he doesn't get the bonus, so how is it garaunteed. I thought only signing bonuses are garaunteed.

Unfortunatley, you are correct there. It used to be anyteam vs. the Cardinals to jack up the price, but I don't think the Cards are desparate anymore. They are probably genuinely interested, but only for the right price.

These reports are true, im listening to WEEI in New England and they are reporting the same thing. They said his decision will come in the next 72 hours. I heard about it at lunch today, someone came up to me and said The Cards and The Pats are the only two teams in the running for law. Its all over the local airwaves.

Could it be that the Cards are looking for him to fill the Safety role?

With Rolle, Macklin & Green, I was thinking the same thing. I've never seen Law play FS, but he's extremely talented & a ball hawk. I for one would love to have him in the secondary, no matter what position he played.

To make a run at Ty Law is akin to saying we are one player away from competing for a SB berth.....which is kool aide thinking personified.

Maybe I'm dizzy from the lemonade but if we can boost up the secondary with Law, stay healthy and get a few good breaks along the way, we're as close as anyone in the NFC.

Is this the same Ty Law that said a few years ago that he'd NEVER play for Belichick or NE again? Funny what a few years and seeing your value plummet will do to your perspective. I think he looked pretty slow and fat(for a CB) last year. I'd be kind of luke warm on signing him. If he's motivated and in shape then it'd be a great deal. But, i think, he's just playing out the string and will go to the team with the most money on the table even if it's only a dollar more.

Law would be a good teacher for Rolle. He'd also create some competition for the #1 CB spot.

Going into the Rams game, would you rather have Rolle or Law covering Holt?

I'd put Law on Holt and enjoy the show.

What Law did you watch last year? He played at a PB caliber level. He would insatntly help this team and upgrade the starting position with him and Rolle being startes and MAcklin and Green as back-ups.

Or heck move him to safety in place of Griffith!
