The agent for inside linebacker Karlos Dansby is expected to meet with General Manager Rod Graves later this week as the two sides try to reach agreement on a long-term deal.

The pace of negotiations has been slow, so it will be interesting to see if things pick up.

Graves has been negotiating a long term deal for Dansby for over a year. The negotiations are becoming long term. :bang:

Question to Joeschmo. With the NFLPA agreement coming to an end in 2010, how do you negotiate a long term agreement if you don't know what the rules will be after this year?

If I was a player/agent, the only thing I would look at is the guaranteed money.

Who in Hell cares how long it takes? Just so they reach agreement eventually.Too many people get too dramatic too often.

The agreement doesnt come to an end until 2012. 2010 is when it becomes uncapped but the CBA is still in place until 2012.

Players and agents are pretty much negotiating as if nothing will change. And for the most part nothing will change except for the percentage that players get paid versus the revenue, maybe rookie pay scale, and a few other smaller items that really wont effect veterans.

I am curious to what everybody's opinion of Karlos is. He is obviously a great player and could be the cornerstone of this defense for years. I just struggle with if his talents are maximized at ILB or OLB. He had 8 sacks in 2006. I think there is room for improvement in being more creative with our defensive play makers like Dansby, Wilson, Rolle, and others. We are now in a position this year where we finally have some solid DB's that we can rely on and that may free some of those guys to do what they do best.

He is the key to our Defense.. he is a leader, and the anchor... we NEED to get him signed losing him would set our defense back quite a bit IMO..

This is simply ridiculous that we are still talking about this. Graves should have given the Cards best defensive player (sorry AW lovers) a long time deal.

Agreed. When asking about peoples opinion of Karlos, I was more asking if people think his talents were maximized or not by Clancy. Anyone who argues that Karlos isn't a good player has issues. He is the key and future of our defense and we would be taking about 50 steps back if we lost him. His is the best player at the most important position (IMO) on our defense. I love A-Dub, but Dansby is more valuable now and for our future.

Absolutely right, Bucky.

Totally and emphatically disagree.

I love Karlos and think he is undervalued both league wide and even among some of the teams fans. He is a potential perennial Pro Bowler.

But AW already IS a perennial Pro Bowler and I have seen enough games with him not there that were just disgusting to watch to know he is the true key. Before DRC he was the only thing that kept the teams coverage and sack numbers from being historically bad. And he is the obvious leader of that unit.

Couldn't disagree more.

Still think KD needs to be locked up long term though. He is defnitely a big part of the eventual solution.

I have to disagree. I have seen the defense without Wilson and seen the defense without Dansby. Wilson is much more important than Dansby, but I will agree that Dansby has a much higher ceiling and is underutilized.

As far as the deal being done, it is EASY to sit and say "He should have been extended". But everyone here would have agreed that until Karlos put the past 2 years together back to back there were some toughness and dedication concerns. The new staff seems to have helped Dansby turn the corner to the type of player we want to give big money to.

LOL I don't mind agreeing with fellow fans, but can I ever post it before they do so I don't look like the guy who just restates and posts unoriginal material?

Adrian Wilson is the best player and leader on this defense, as cited, games without Wilson show how evident this is. Dansby? Great player and yes this team needs to reach a long term deal with him but he is not what Wilson is to the defense.

This is about the 3rd time today where somebody has started a thread with news that isn't new or even remotely recent. Bring on the damned draft. Please.

I agree. And this past season by all accounts A-Dub took on more of a leadership role and was more approachable by the younger players and served as a mentor to them, thus further enhancing his value IMO.

The real dilemna is can the Cardinals pay Karlos more money in a long-term deal than Adrian? A-dub is probably one of the 5 or 6 best safeties in the NFL. With all due respect, I'm not sure you can say the same about Karlos with regard to ILB. Mike Sando didn't even have him on his all NFC West squad this past season.

I think if used right, Karlos can be one of the best LB in the league and deserve a big pay increase...Wilson is just special and as it turns out is such a leader for this defense.

You cant compare their contracts. Different positions and different ages.

Position is the biggest thing. The best LBs make about twice what the best safety makes. This will happen regardless just because of the positions they play.

This is ludicrous.

Dansby has had all offseason to get his contract worked out.

It seems silly that team negotiations with Wilson and Boldin once again have to wait because the team now has to go back and try to work out a deal Dansby.

Just make him a fair offer.

If he rejects it, then let him go after next season and move on.

For the same money, the team could probably land a Free Agent LB next season just as good or better than Dansby.
