Anybody know the performance numbers that Drake has to hit to turn the 6th rd pick into a 5th for Miami?

They traded Brock AND a second round pick AND a 6th round pick and got back a fourth. We would have to trade DJ AND a 2nd or 3rd for a 4th back. Mine as well keep him at that point.

Plus Cleveland was a team in full tank mode and was happy to take on that $17 million salary to hit the salary floor. They had $59 million in cap space available during the 2017 season. We need to find a team like that. Maybe Miami???

Likely scenario
We can't extend drake unfortunately
We got him for a six
He will sign somewhere else and the Cardinals will receive a compensatory pick (a 4th), in 2021

Sadly, I think our expected activity in FA this year will nullify whatever comp pick he could’ve netted us.

Why is so many so sure Drake won’t be here next year. He’s had a good run but we are not looking at a resume’ of Leveon Bell or Todd Gurley.

He might want to see what offers might be out there but he seems happy here. I don’t think anybody is going to back up a brinks truck for him.

DJ contract is the main reason it's unlikely to extend him

Call me skeptic but Drakes td celebration last week screamed that he wants to get paid. He will go to the highest bidder.imo

Most players will. But when you look at f/a running backs last year ( other than Bell) we saw Coleman and Ingram get very modest contracts.

Another lesson to be learned is it appeared the Jets made a huge mistake with Bell. When you check teams looking for a RB, factor teams that aren’t and look at teams that can’t because of cap problems Drake may find there isn’t a great market out there.

There will be other options out there like Matt Breida. I would rather have Drake but Breida would fit nicely. It’s just hard to see a guy like Drake walk away when he’s come in here and fit so nicely.

another thing to consider is why did Keim make this trade? I doubt he was thinking a 9 game rental player. He certainly wasn’t bolstering the roster to make a playoff run. I think he was looking into the future and has seen the decline in DJ. With that in mind I’m guessing ( hoping) that talks have already begun with The Drake.

I hope so.
I like Drake, he seems like a good dude.

I hope Drake stays here.

The main concern I have with him signing somewhere else is Atlanta. He is from there, a Falcon fan, and their offense has more talent. Freeman has been a disappointment.

Or he could be negotiating with the Cardinals now and the last two weeks have earned him more money. :)

Kingsbury playing close to the vest with RB position. Said Cards still have to have discussions if Kenyan Drake is No. 1 back, still have to figure out if David Johnson and/or 3 backs can fit together.

Kingsbury won't commit to Kenyan Drake as No. 1 back in 2020 but says he has chance to "really take off." Should be noted Drake is a free agent; Cardinals will have to re-sign him.

DJ could have a role albeit a different one if he is kept on the roster. The issue is that DJ was unable to learn a new role during the season which kept him from being more of an option.

Well we could always draft Dobbins from the Ohio St since he declared for the draft. He sure does remind me of Zeke lol

Not the performance but if we extend him it will turn into a fifth round pick, otherwise is a sixth

Haven't seen this posted...

Dolphins get pick upgrade … Miami got a little bit of good draft news as the season ended as the NFL confirmed that the conditional 6th round pick the Dolphins received from Arizona in exchange for RB Kenyon Drake has been upgraded to a 5th because Drake met the productivity goals set out in the original deal. The Dolphins now have three picks in the 5th round as they had previously acquired picks in that round from both Pittsburgh and the LA Rams, while they sent their own selection to Arizona as part of the Josh Rosen deal last spring.

Basically the Cardinals traded Rosen and a 6th for Drake and a 2nd.

We traded Rosen for Drake and Isabella.

If Drake stays here, that is a damn good trade.

If not, we pissed away another 1st round pick completely.

Doesn't Atlanta have one of the worst cap situations in the league?
