This really looks like a classic Keim buy low maneuver. I remember Miami hyping him up a bit, and then he couldn't live up to it.

A couple years on the Browns with one total win doesn't look great on the ol resume.
I agree. may turn out to be like a trip to jail.

it happened,...dude hated it,..and will work his ass off to make sure he never has to go back.

lining up across from PP21 and being on a team that at least has a light at the end of the tunnel may be all the kid needs to find his motivation and break out...he has talent.

I think we have our number two CB now. The good thing is we brought in a few other guys so if somebody gets hurt we are not relying on a rookie across from PP21. Our defense looks okay at the line and the backend. I think we just need to bring in another linebacker or two before the season starts and the defense should have enough depth.

I’m pretty sure Tim Couch did nothing of the sort his rookie season.

Sorry Cheese my memory failed me again. Azlen is correct it was 4th season which was in 2002. Maybe that makes a better case for BA being the QB whisperer.

From Wikipedia

2002 season[edit]
The Browns' 2002 campaign was a special one. Although the 2001 Browns raised eyebrows with their defense, having recorded 43 sacks and a league-best 33 interceptions, the offense was once again moribund. The run game was pitiful and the offensive line was porous. At the start of the 2002 preseason, star linebacker Jamir Miller went down with a career-ending Achilles tendon injury. However, the reincarnated "Kardiac Kids", led by Couch, won 9 games, including five in the final two minutes and seven by 10 points or less, and made a wildcard playoff spot.[21] Those thrillers included a 31-28 overtime win over Tennessee in which Couch threw for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns, a last minute touchdown and two-point conversion passes from Couch to Dennis Northcutt against the Jets, the "Hail Mary" against the Jaguars, and a final-minute drive against Baltimore where Couch threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Mark Campbell after being pinned inside his own 5-yard line with 0 timeouts and 1:30 left in regulation.

Marcus Williams wasn't making much money so it must have been attitude or fit for him to get cut before guys like Brandon Williams, Jonathan Moxey, Deatrick Nichols, Tavierre Thomas or Lou Young.

Maybe they were giving him veteran respect with a chance to catch on with another team & compete for a starting spot...

I don't know, the guy was only making $790k this season & has had some success in the NFL over 5 seasons so I'd rather have him around than an UDFA rookie that hasn't shown he can play at the NFL level.

I like this move. I agree, this is the type of move that pays dividends. And the icing is that he has an affordable contract for TWO years. That means that if he is successful this season, you could draft his replacement next draft and ease the kid in. The Cardinals will need to use a high pick on a corner soon because Peterson is going to start to get older and they will need the next man to step up when Peterson isn't a top corner anymore.

Peterson and Taylor is a decent tandem, but the 3rd CB job is shaky. I really hope that Campbell can play solid his rookie year. From his highlights, it looks like he can. The Cards probably would move Campbell outside and Taylor inside if that is the case, since Campbell looks more like an outside corner than a nickel.

A few years ago, Marcus Williams was viewed as an up and coming player with the Jets, but he stunk after some early success. I think the team must have seen something they didn't like about him in the offseason program since they were quick to let him go.

One issue with having Taylor opposite Peterson, is that Taylor has never been the type of corner to get picks. We really could use a ball hawk opposite Peterson since whoever is opposite him is going to get chances to get picks.

Cardinals CB Taylor the latest candidate to start opposite Peterson
TEMPE, Ariz. – Jamar Taylor heard rumors that the Cleveland Browns were shopping him, but he resolved to go about his business.

“A guy like me, I try to keep my head down,” the sixth-year NFL cornerback said Wednesday. “After they drafted a corner fourth overall (Ohio State’s Denzel Ward), it’s kind of like, ‘Alright. Let’s get this ball rolling so I could hopefully get to a new team and I could put my best foot forward.’”

I agree. However, at this point, I am so thankful the Cardinals have someone opposite Patrick Peterson.

Another one-year wonder.
He's under contract next season. If he plays great then his $4 million salary next year will be a bargain. If he sucks, we can cut him with very little dead money.

He took a 50% pay cut this season to be a starter here and reduce his cap hit to help us sign more guys.

Always the optimist I see.

lol Clearly you don't! That was a neutral comment on Keim's favorite type of deal. It isn't technically a 1-year deal, but it's a Keim special 1-yr deal w/a team option. Some of these deals are good, some of them aren't. We'll have to wait and see on this one. We need it to work, because we have garbage opposite him otherwise.

I misunderstood. I took it as he had one good year in 2016 & terrible since. My bad. :)
