The rating for the SD game was 3.1. To put it in perspective, thost ratings were closer to beach volleyball than golf. The rating for the Dallas replay was a 1, which actually put it behind beach volleyball.

I know the channel sucks, and it's only preseason, but it wasn't that long ago that the Cardinals NEVER got less than 10 in the ratings. Last year was the first time ratings dipped under 10, and that was during the regular season sometimes as well as preseason. Before the D-Backs won the World Series, 9 out of the top 10 ratings for sports broadcasts ever in the Phoenix were Cardinals games. Even if they were bad, people watched. Now, it seems that apathy is reigning supreme.

Until the Cards do something to rid the locals of apathy, these things will continue. Sure, the station may work against them but I believe it is more the Cards history of losing that is slowly sapping the will to watch more than the poor choice in stations.

Since Channel 27 boosted it's power, was the picture any better for those using rabbit ears?

How many people get that channel, or even know it exists or how to find it? I have DirecTV up here in Flagstaff and I can't watch the game, even though I want to.

If the games were on Channel 3 or Fox I bet the ratings would be much higher.

I agree that the channel is part of the problem, but the severe dip in the ratings began last year. How can they sell tickets if no one will even bother to find the channel?

Maybe the Cards organization should spend more time marketing to Arizona fans (ie, no blackouts - all televised) rather than Las Vegas fans. Another brilliant move by Bumblin' Bill....

I think the ratings are because the games are on the far reaches of tv --

-- put the games on a channel people dont have to look for and more will watch

I think part of the problem is with the Cardinals management. They'd rather grab a few extra short term dollars than get on a real station (TV or radio) and get a better signal that reaches more people.

They've done the same thing with radio, hooking up with a station that doesn't even register on the local ratings.

Ummm, the Cards have been marketing to AZ since 1988. Also, Bidwill/Cards have no (zero, zip, zilch) control over blackouts. That is an NFL rule and only they can lift it. Las Vegas is a smart move since it will open (hopefully) a new market of potential Cards fans...but winning cures all, even preseason ills.

Now, you do bring up a point that needs examining. Blackouts. IMO, the NFL needs to help to market ALL it's teams. The Cards are a black mark on the NFL fan/marketing spectrum and the NFL has in their power, the ability to make it easier to sell the Cards. Lift some if not all the home blackouts for one year. Maybe it would hurt at the turnstiles but it could only help cultivate fans of the team here in AZ if they get to watch all 16 games.

Of course, if the Cards choke on it, then there is nothing gained but if they could win games and stay competitive in all the other games, people would take notice. Of course, fans in AZ only get to watch away games so their exposure is limited...add to that the fact that alot of teams lose more on the road than at home.

Just a thought.

Jim O., maybe you can answer this. I always thought the radio station paid the Cards for being able to broadcast the games rather than the other way around as brews is suggesting.

What about it?

That is because Direct TV doesn't show preseason games.
That will go up during the season. I mean we have what? 500 Cardinals fans in NJ? Or at least it seems.

By the way if you think the Cardinals front office is bad try dealing with NJ politicians! :gun:

HELL NO!!!

I love it that I get to see Cards games.

BTW, it isnt a bad move to try and lure major cities (1.5 million and growing) into rooting for your team.

All we see up here is LA this, LA that...its about time somebody tried to tap this market.
