This is definitely not your Ken Whisenhunt / Rod Graves Cardinals. Definitely a boom or bust proposition here.

I am. LOVE this pick!!!!!

If anyone thought Bill Sr. still had any say in personnel, this pick says louder than any words ever could, "NO".

WOW is what people are going to say when this kid starts taking picks to the house. Look, if you think that a bunch of the pro players do not do pot, then one has a different reality than I do. I hope he cleans up or him and Washington talk to other players on how not to get caught. Dude is a playmaker, and a third round selection for the star potential he could achieve is worth it in my opinion.

This was posted on ESPN Draftcast right after the pick by one of their writers...

I can't ever remember us making a third round pick that ESPN talked about for 10 minutes, every expert getting their say in, while totally ignoring the picks the next few teams were making.

We could have taken the highest ranked player on the board and the player could be a bust.

Geesus, give this regime a chance. I like the fact that they have a plan and they are going with it.

Many of you guys are moaning about why not this guy and why not that guy. HEY, there were 68 other selections made and all of them past on the guys some of you are whining about.

We needed help on the o-line...we got it.
We needed help at LB.....we got it.
We needed help in the secondary...we got it.

AND we picked up an extra 4th round pick.

Lets let this play out before we start crying "same ole' Cardinals".

Scouts Inc profile:

Overall Football Traits

Production 1 2010: (13/1) 57-7-2 2011: (13/13) 70-7-22012: DNP Career: 11 FF, 6 FR (2 for TDs). 15 TFL, 6 sacks. PRs 26-420-16.2-2

Height-Weight-Speed 4 Is shorter than the average NFL CB and is right on the NFL CB average with weight, 40-yard dash time (4.50), hand span (9.3) and arm length (31.1).

Durability 2 Was durable during first two seasons at LSU (2010-'11). Lack of size and style of play do; however, create concern for long-term durability in NFL.

Intangibles 5 Hard worker. Seemingly endless amount of energy. Highly confident. However, enters the league with significant amount of off-the-field baggage. Served a one-game suspension (Auburn) in 2011 for violating the team's drug policy. In August of 2012, dismissed from team for violation of team policy (failed multiple drug tests) and entered a drug rehab center in Houston. Returned to school as a regular student, hoping to earn a second chance at returning to the team but was arrested on October 26, 2012 (along with three former LSU football players) and charged with simple possession of marijuana. He said during combine interviews that the last time he took an illegal substance was October 26, 2012. Maternal grandfather, Lorenzo Mathieu, helped raise him until he died of complications from a heart attack when Mathieu was 5. His biological mother, Tyra Mathieu has five children, and Tyrann was the only one she didn't raise, leaving him to live with a maternal uncle and aunt -- his adoptive parents (Tyrone and Sheila Mathieu) -- after his grandfather's death. His biological father, Darrin Hayes, is serving a life sentence in the Louisiana State Penitentiary for murder.

Cornerback Specific Traits

Instincts/Recognition 1 Very good natural instincts. Has a rare nose for the football. Very comfortable in space. Reads QBs' eyes effectively. Understands angles and leverage. Knows when to break off of coverage and attack the football. Will occasionally get caught biting and needs to learn when to tone down the aggressiveness.

Cover Skills 3 Erratic footwork. Backpedal is a mess. Gets too high, loses balance and gets feet crossed up at times. But he's very quick, fluid and sudden. Shows good closing burst when ball is in front of him. Better in zone coverage than in man-to-man. Very natural in space. Gives up a lot of size to bigger WRs. Will have man-to-man matchup limitations in the NFL. Inconsistent at reading WRs routes and will bite on some double moves. Frequently in trail position and can struggle to get head turned around in time to locate the ball.

Ball Skills 2 Natural playmaker. Adept at stripping the ball and forcing fumbles. Always seems to be in on big plays. Has better than average hands. Takes good angles, gets early jumps on the ball and attacks it at highest point when in position to do so. Can struggle to locate the ball over his shoulder. Has shown big-play ability as a punt return specialist.

Run Support 2 Undersized and can get caught up in trash on occasion. If bigger blockers get into his body they can sometimes push him around. But generally plays much bigger than size and bench press results (4 reps at combine) might indicate. Spends good majority of time near the line of scrimmage. Is crafty at sifting through traffic and staying off of blocks. Fills extremely hard. Is fearless. Will occasionally miss some tackles (usually when he comes in too hot) but has much better pop than most CBs his size. Shows ability to take down bigger ball carriers.

All the talent in the World isn`t worth a damn if the player can`t stay on the field. He was a award winning player and he couldn`t even obey enough rules to stay on the team and play as a senior. So now he`s a Pro who is going to get a large amount of money and he`s going to fly the staright and narrow path and avoid temptations.

I love this regime and what the Cards are doing. Maybe this will pan out, maybe it won't, odds are it won't. But the support system is there for him in AZ that isn't there on the other 31 teams. Not crazy about the pick, hope it works out for everyone. Most importantly even if it doesn't pan out for TM as an NFL player I hope his mistakes on the past are behind him.

I like the pick. Straight up playmaker. One of the best if not the best tackling DB the last year he played. Stuck his nose into everything(no drug jokes). If he didnt get kicked out of school he would have easily been a 1st rounder.

Peterson vouched for his character, Petersons Dad who is a highly thought of personal trainer to football players vouched for his character. Also little known fact, he actually was dating Bowles stepdaughter for a while so Bowlers knows this kids character as well. If there was a team that had a inside track on this kids current well being mentally and emotional it would be this team. The kid with his agent also said in a prior interview if any team wanted to he would put into his contract weekly drug testing. Kid made a mistake, a big one, he paid for it, got himself clean, and now he gets his second chance. Just don't screw it up.

Who is crying same old Cardinals? Most are saying its a sure sign things have changed. This is proof positive that Michael Bidwill is now 100% in charge of the Franchise. Dollar Bill wouldn't have let a kid like this within 100 miles of the team.

My only concern is how not playing last year will affect him going forward.

WOW am i stoked on this pick. This was by far the best team for him to go to with PP21, and Fitz, and Minter. Bowles has known him for years. He is willing to sign whatever in his contract to show he is off drugs.

WOW this is huge. This guy will be blowing up the zone read in the NFCW.

I am not even worried about the bust potential. You are getting that with most any third round pick. But man the potential for this guy to mkae plays for this defense.....?

Probably the best thing that could have happened to him. He now knows what it is like to be without football. He knows he screwed up and cost himself a year of football, his reputation, and lots of money with his drop in where he was drafted. He has the motivation to stay clean so he can keep playing and play well enough to prove people wrong and cash in at the pro level if he performs well enough on and off the field.

C'mon, Honey Badger !!!
