This writer for the Hawks seems convinced that no team in the NFC west will be within 3 games of the Seahawks come the end of the year. I really don't see it. I think they are severly underestimating our team. I have really tried this offseason to be less like a homer and more objective, but this just gets under my skin.

The Seahawks have some really question marks on their team with their running backs and WR's health.

Also I really think he is underestimating Kurt Warner. Many of you know I wanted Matt to start for the future of the franchise, but I think people are short sighting Kurt and his abilites.
In fact, the Hawks won the division by two games last year and should have at least that much of a cushion this season.

meh.... homerism is a funny thing. fact is the cards, rams, and hags all have a good chance of winning the West this year. IMO it all comes down to head to head and who stays healthy. To say that any team will have at least a 3 game gap in any division in the NFL is certainly being overly optimistic at this point.

Cards 9-7
Hags 9-7
Rams 7-9
Niners 4-12

Seattle is still good they have questions but they have a lot of answers too.

the Rams I'm not sold on, depends on how good of shape Steven Jackson is guys who hold out and come in late often seem to have injury problems because they arrive out of shape.

I think there could well be a 3 game gap between the Hawks and the Cards.

Cards 11 - 5

Hawks 8 - 8

lol

wouldnt that be somethin' !

In all seriousnees though...... how crazy would the celebration be if the Cards won their first division title in some 33 years?

Think how exciting it would be to beat Seattle at the Frat House to clinch the division title.

Come on guys we've been more than loyal. Give us a season of big time games.

we heard that line two years ago - we get seattle down here in september and when we win it'll lock up the division

well, the cards won but..........................

these seasons get to be so unpredictable that it's almost impossible to know the weight of a game in the last quarter of the season - many teams fall, many emerge and many stay the same - makes it fun and maddening all at once ....... i've grown to just ride the season as it presents itself and the team will finish where they finish

The Rams? Are you serious? They have a chance at finishing last but not first.

i think the rams could be a tough team and one that is capable of beating any team on a day, but not consistent enough to beat enough teams to matter

they still have some serious offensive weapons and the defense can show up every now and again

as always health will be their biggest hurdle and then it'll roll from there

the NFL is so up and down --

I agree that given Seattle's 2007 Div Champ status and relatively low turnover in personnel, they are the pre season favorites.

However-- what if (lets say): Hasselback's back is chronically bothersome all season long -- not enough to bench him, but enough to impact his play. Combine that with a running game that stays mediocre, and a injury riddled WR corp --- and you get an offense that struggles.

Keep in mind -- Hasselback has career highs in yardage (nearly 4,000) and TD passes last year (28). He literally carried the offense for much of their season.

Could that be enough to cost Seattle 2 or 3 games vs the 2007 record? I dont think there is any question.

I am not saying that exact scenario will pan out -- its just a plausible scenario that could end Seattle's run -- and the kind of thing that happens to all NFL teams at one time or another.

EDIT: I should have said the Hasselback "figuratively" carried the offense. Although maybe his bad back is from trying to literally carry the offense.

When has anybody said that a win in September will lock up the division.

Only the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts lock up their playoff berths in September.

MAke no mistake, Seattle is the team to beat in this division. Their defense alone will carry them deep into the season.

The thing that has me excited is that I feel this is the most prepared team the Cards have put on the field to start a season in a long, long time.

Last year we had a new coach, new system, rookie QB, basically no depth and we all wondered just what we would do if Edge got hurt.
This year we added depth, we are a year wiserr within the same system. Our offensive line is set, but the key to this team turning the corner is the help we added along the d-line and linebackers. They could be the catalyst to a swarming , untiring group tha could reek havoc on opposing offenses.

What does this add up to? Not a damn thing. Now we got to do it on the field. Make no mistake about it. This team needs to start 2-0 against inferior teams and set the tone for the rest of the season. If we can do that, (start 2-0) , the sky is the limit.

Champions don't give it up easily. Hasselbeck is clearly the best QB in the division. And as much as we mock their run game, as long as Edge is our starter, our run game will continue to be below average.

Their defense is very good.

I disagree with the article but understand the writer's confidence.
