I was, but I was a little guy. The only thing that I remember was going up there for the annual "Pig Roast" and eating with my dad, O.J. Anderson, and Jim Hanifan among others. It was in the early to mid 80's I think.

Yeah Jim- I was there everyday that the Cards were in Charleston. I grew up a few blocks away. I remember hanging at the pig roast with the annual talent contest for rookies. O.J. took me and a couple of my friends to see return of the living dead(he laughed the whole time). Earl Farrel ate at my house and Doug Dawson was really nice. I use to bring pez candies for Wayne Smith everyday. Niko Noga and Peter would go to the weightroom after practice(those guys were animals). Wow, so many memories. Jim, your dad and Mark Ahm? were awesome. Your dad use to give us roles of athletic tape and extra stuff. I'll never forget those years and the hundreds of stories. All in all, I think those summers kept me out of trouble and inspired me to play college ball myself, I wasn't great, but those summers gave me the added inspiration and desire that it took for me, of average athletic ability, to be pretty good. Tell your dad that one of the little kids from those years says thanks for being such a nice and charitable guy. I still can see his calm demeanor and that balding head(don't tell him that.)

I remember my dad taking me the first season that one of my all-time fav Cards had his first training camp with the team: Al "Bubba" Baker. He spent alot of time with the fans after practise and signed my practise sheet. Awesome guy, along with Curtis Greer and David Galloway.

Hahaha! My dad and I both go by the saying "God only made a few beautiful people, on the rest, he put hair."

That was a cool story. I remember nothing about training camp except for the big ass BBQ that they did!

David Galloway once pulled his groin getting out of his car and was out for a bit.

Ouch!

Billy G takes the cake for the most freak injury in my mind. Or maybe it was the Gus Ferrotte head but neck injury.

Al "Bubba" Baker was pretty nice, except, the time he told a bunch of us that if we wanted to be as big as him we needed to drink draino. Of course, he came right back and said he was only kidding. Yeah, David Galloway was real nice. An interesting tid-bit. I remember my first practice that I went to. I was waiting to get O.J. Andersons autograph and I remember a rookie asking if I wanted his autograph. I said sure as I kept looking for O.J. and he gave it back. It was Stump Mitchell. I also remember Eddie Mcgill(TE) giving us tickets to a game and that year there was a rookie named Jay Novacek competing for TE, I actually asked him if he thought he could beat out Mcgill and Greg Lafleur and of course, the rest is history. At that time, I was more loyal to the attention paid to me rather than being a football guru. I have to stop, the stories are endless.

The story Thomas Jones told the coaches about answering the phone was classic too!!

Or when Hunky Cooper (Arizona Rattlers) ran over his foot with the lawn mower and missed the playoffs.... Not that it is funny but everytime I mow my lawn I wonder how the hell that happened
